9The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean atOmega University.

"Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented anew procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectivenessof all their professors. Since that time, Omegaprofessors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overallstudent grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employersapparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain whyOmega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduatesfrom nearby Alpha University. To enable itsgraduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should nowterminate student evaluation of professors."
