Admittedly, in some field technology does playan important role social customs and ethics such as the discrimination towardwomen. In a long period before the industry revolution, men dominated the openworld for their advantage in physical strength which is widely required in thattime. But due to the development of technology many jobs which need manualstrength is replaced with auto machines. Instead, non-manual work has broughtout many opportunities for women today which make them more convincing in the claimfor their rights of equal position. The domination of man declined since thewomen have more and more social contribution and it leads to a revolution inthe social customs and ethics toward women.

However, some other facts may share thesame effect. Considering the custom festivals like the Spring Festival, themost important ceremony in China, has change little despite the rapidlydevelopment of technology now days. Customs with a long history which is so importantfor a culture or a nation to identify themselves from the others can hardly bechanged, to say nothing of being determined. History plays a same importantrole, if not more, with technologies. And that may explain why there are stillso many disparities in customs and ethics of countries share a similardevelopment of technology. To some extent culture differences are embodied in thedisparity of customs and ethics.

Moreover, the customs and ethics can also berelated to the nature circumstance where the people live. For example thenation inland is less interested in exploration than that surrounded by theocean. The nation with plenty of natural resources is less likely to be worriedabout the future than that is shortage. The unique features of a local environmentalways give special characters, which are less to do with technologies, to itsinhabitations.

In addition, social customs and ethics canalso influence technologies. Sperm donate, test tube baby, clone human and soon, these technologies are still limited by ethics, as far as I know clonehuman is still forbidden in most countries, even the using of clone in agricultureis under discuss. Technology at last should serve as a tool to contribute tonot only common life but also the level of social customs and ethics.

In sum the customs and ethics are socomplex that they can hardly be determined by just one aspect, such astechnology. It is an interaction progress in the development of both technologyand the standards of customs and ethics.
