Is it the artist gives society something of lasting value instead of the cirtic, as the author claims? Although I concede this statement, there are alternatives possible determinants for us to conclude to the lasting value which make by the artist. In fact, it is difficult for us to understand these implications of artworks without comments by the critic who evaluates works of art, such as novels, films, music, paintings, etc.
Granted, the artist's inspiration and creative works reflect the full panoply history of human beings. The motto of the Renaissance was "A man can do all things if he wills," and the man who fulfilled that motto more than any other was Leonardo da Vinci. Da Vinci excelled at protraiture, a new art form that depicted people as individuals. His painting of the Mona Lisa remains the most famous portrait ever done. Michelangelo, as much as da Vinci, his artistic accomplishments exerted a tremendous influence on his contemporaries and on subsequent European art.
However, art, in its broadest meaning, is the expression of creativity or imagination, and it is distinguished from crafts and recreational hobby activities, and sometimes it is more abstract than a symbol that confused most of people. How shall we describe the Sunflower by Van Gogh? and what's the secrets behind da Vinci's Mona Lisa? Is Venus represents a perfect to the human? Without critic, it seems that we have little to do with this epoch-making artworks.
What's more?Critic, written critiques, or reviews, are published in newspapers, magazines, books and on web sites, can provide feedback for artists, and constructive criticism, if taken to heart, can result in better work. Art collectors and patrons often utilize the advice of art critics. Typically the art critic views art at exhibitions, galleries, museums or artists' studios.
In sum, artists and critics supplement each other. It is actually that critics is to artists what air is to human. As time passes, the greatest works are those which are created by artists and evaluated by critics which draw people's attention towards those works. |
