94"Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated."

People’s intellectuality is developed transversely and vertically. Cross-disciplines enlarge the landscope of our knowledge while expertise in one field of study deepens our understanding. With regard to the goal of university education, which aims at cultivating professional talents, rather than know-all, to meet the societal needs, university studnets should be equipped with verious academic disciplines only as a means to obtain the basic skills to orient to the society. Yet most importantly, students should have a good command of his or her major in order to profoundly contribute to the society.

As the British philosopher, Francis Bacon, once said, “Histories make men wise; poems pretty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosopher deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. Knowledge from a versatility of disciplines would by all means provide students with the elementary capability to orient to the society. For example, the world is a network made up by individuals. Under such a circumstance, college students have to communicate with different people in almost every aspect. consequently, the communicative skill gained from discipline of literature is necessary. In addition, students have to discriminate right from wrong in the world so as to form the principle of conducting themselves. To do this, they are in dire need of logical ideation which can be learned in the mathematics course. When it comes to cross-disciplines’ relation with students’ major, it cannot be denied that all-rounded knowledge furnish students with a convenient tool to research deeper in their major. An illuminating example involves terpsichorean Tina Oregasa in Germany, it’s through her physics study that she knew the theory of balance. Applying this theory in her dancing movements, she created a multitude of graceful dances and finally is listed in the “golden list” of dancers in the world.

Nevertheless, comprehensive study should be within the confines of understanding instead of mastering, because the very objective of college education is to foster epecialized talents for respective field, which nessitates only common sense of different areas. Consider, if all students are attatched to knowing all areas, whether pertinent to their major or not, this would inevitably occupy a great deal of their time which should be spend on their majors. Therefore, they may not have enough energy and time to go further in their major and this in turn will sharply frustrate their expertise. Take Einstein for instance, even though his hobbies varies greatly from music to philosophy, from mathematics to physics. According to an authentic report leased last year in CNN, the time amount he spent in all his interested areas account for only one fourth of his time spent on biology. Having known this, we do not feel difficult to know how  his masterpiece Special Theory of Relativity in biology come into being. In his sense, veracious discipline only play a role as assistant to major in university education rather than priority.

Furthermore, our society is in dire need of various professional talents. Here, “various”can be achieved from a great many of different students with different majors but not one student with comprehensive knowledge. Whereas, “professional” could be realized through students’ expertise in one field. As one towering educator once said: a cure-all cannot form a society but many professionals do it. Thus, without profound knowledge of in certain fields, there would be no breakthroughs in that fiels. Vice versa, without a diversity of profound knowledge, our society cannot be a comprehensive one. With regard to this, university education should acclimatize itself to the need of society, requiring students to devote to their major, in the meanwhile ,provide various curricula to satisfy every student’s need.

In closing, I cannot agree with the writer that acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated. Instead, cross-disciplines act as an accessorial tool to cultivate students basic ability so as to better study and in their major. However, all-rounded knwoledge from veraciosu academic disciplines enables students to be adaptive to the changing and complex society.

People’s intellectuality is developed transversely and vertically. Cross-disciplines enlarge the landscope of our knowledge while expertise in one field of study deepens our understanding. Yet most importantly, students should have a good command of his or her major in order to profoundly contribute to the society.

As the British philosopher, Francis Bacon, once said(Bacon的话引用到哪里,只有一个引号?), “Histories make men wise; poems pretty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosopher deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. Knowledge from a versatility of disciplines would by all means provide students with the elementary capability to orient to the society. For example(例子在哪里?), the world is a network made up by individuals. Applying this theory in her dancing movements, she created a multitude of graceful dances and finally is listed in the “golden list” of dancers in the world.(段落总结句呢?)

Nevertheless, comprehensive study should be within the confines of understanding instead of mastering, because the very objective of college education is to foster epecialized(professional) talents for respective field, which nessitates(necessitate) only common sense of different areas. Consider, if all students are attatched to knowing all areas, whether pertinent to their major or not, this would inevitably occupy a great deal of their time which should be spend on their majors. Therefore, they may not have enough energy and time to go further in their major and this in turn will sharply frustrate their expertise. Take Einstein for instance, even though his hobbies varies(vary) greatly from music to philosophy, from mathematics to physics. According to an authentic report leased last year in CNN, the time amount he spent in all his interested areas account for only one fourth of his time spent on biology. Having known this, we do not feel difficult to know how  his masterpiece Special Theory of Relativity in biology come into being. In his sense, veracious discipline only play a role as assistant to major in university education rather than priority.(Einstein 的例子感觉举的不好,虽然他的兴趣广泛,花在他感兴趣的时间占他花在生物上时间的1/4,但还能取得如此成绩(并没有耽误他的专业,也没有浪费时间和精力),这更说明他是一个杰出而全面的人才,个人觉得这个例子做为第一段的例子较恰当。)

Furthermore, our society is in dire need of various professional talents. Here, “various”can be achieved from a great many of different students with different majors but not one student with comprehensive knowledge. With regard to this, university education should acclimatize itself to the need of society, requiring students to devote to their major, in the meanwhile ,provide various curricula to satisfy every student’s need.(总体感觉这段分析的比较好

People’s intellectuality is developed transversely and vertically Cross-disciplines enlarge the          landscope of our knowledge while expertise in one field of study deepens our understanding.

As the British philosopher, Francis Bacon, once said不是说为了防ETS说抄袭,这里要加and i paraphrase吗?, “Histories make men wise; poems pretty; the mathematics subtle; natural philosopher deep; moral grave; logic and rhetoric able to contend. 缺少点过渡吧Knowledge from a versatility of disciplines这是什么意思? would by all means provide students with the elementary capability to orient to the society. For example, the world is a network made up by individuals这样会让人误以为你的例子就是这一句话了.... Under such a circumstance, college students have to communicate with different people in almost every aspect. consequently, the communicative skill gained from discipline of literature is necessary. In addition, students have to discriminate right from wrong in the world so as to form the principle of conducting themselves 直接用self-command简洁一点. To do this, they are in dire need of logical      ideation which can be learned in the mathematics course数学好象只能提供逻辑思维能力,并没有对是非的分辨能力吧. Applying this theory in her dancing movements, she created a multitude of graceful dances and finally is listed in the “golden list” of dancers in the world.似乎举例子的时候有点烦琐

Nevertheless, comprehensive study should be within the confines of understanding instead of mastering, because the very objective of college education is to foster epecialized talents for   respective field, which nessitates手误打错了? only common sense of different areas. Consider, if all students are attatched to knowing all areas, whether pertinent to their major or not, this would inevitably occupy a great deal of their time which should be spend on their majors. Therefore, they may not have enough energy and time to go further in their major and this in turn will sharply frustrate their expertise. Take Einstein for instance, even though his hobbies varies greatly from music to philosophy, from mathematics to physics让步之后怎么没有转折了?.

Whereas似乎不是转折关系,用while会不会更好一点, “professional” could be realized through students’ expertise in one field. As one       towering educator once said: a cure-all cannot form a society but many professionals do it. Thus, without profound knowledge of in certain fields, there would be no breakthroughs in that fiels. Vice versa, without a diversity of profound knowledge, our society cannot be a comprehensive one. With regard to this, university education should acclimatize这个词不是偏重于新的环境吗 itself to the need of society, requiring students to devote to their major, in the meanwhile ,provide various curricula to satisfy every student’s need.

94"Universities should require every student to take a variety of courses outside the student's field of study because acquiring knowledge of various academic disciplines is the best way to become truly educated."

比如给出定义truly education 不仅要求对本专业知识技能有较高造诣,同时又要有moraliy as well as broad understanding of other disciplines。
例子有现在大学改革,放宽口径,MIT的电子系和计算机系就是在一起混的,目的就是intensify cross-disciplinary communication and give students more chance and potential to deeply develop one's abilities.
