The authority, which is set by the mass after a long time of practice, is the power to enable people to obey. Whether it should be doubted or not? In my view, unduly suspect the authority will cause the relationship between people intense and untruthful and much time wasted on the repeating of the identification of classic theories. However, we should not neglect that the skepticism which have been made after a careful consideration and deliberate investigation may more or less contributes to the progress of the society.

To begin with, questioning the authority, the existent theories, based on close reflection and detail information may lead to amazing miracles in the progress of the science and technology, and thus brings the energy to compel the development of the society. It is Galileo's skepticism with Aristotle's claim that things of different weight precipitate at different speeds that accelerates the discovery of the laws of free falls. And Bohr's challenge to the Relative Theory, which is regarded as the foundation of modern physics, brings the physical research into a new era of Quantum Theory. A great deal of scientific achievements begins with the spirits of skepticism of the authority, while without which the progress of science even the whole society will bog down in the marsh of stagnancy. Particularly in the period of advanced science and sophisticated technology dominating the pace of the society's progress, the spirits of skepticism is widely appreciated and proposed, as it can cultivate new knowledge and instill energy into every research field. In short, only when we are skeptical with authority can we step into the progress of inquiring the unknown with our curiosity and creativity, as a result contributes to the well-being of the society.

When it comes to the realm of politics, having the rights to question the authority may benefit the democratic construction of the society. The authority in politics portrayed as the government and the laws are set in order to represent and serve the benefits of most people. Every person has the freedom and right to question the work of the government .Limited by the perspectives and experiences, the government cannot take all factors into account and avoid committing any mistakes. Suitable questioning from people will more or less provide reasonable and feasible suggestions, which may prevent the government to commit big mistakes. In the United State, every crucial decision made by the government must be past through in the Senate and House of the Representative which represent the comments and questions of the mass. These questions to the authority will urge the government to reconsider and emend the decisions, which will better represent the benefits of the whole society.  

However, admitting the advantages of the questioning authority does not mean that we can suspect the authority unduly. On one hand, being excessive critical with the authority can do damage to social stability. If everyone was critical with the laws which are set by successive sessions of the government as the authority to maintain the stability of the society, the laws would be altered in different circumstances. In such circumstance, people would be confused with the laws and the criminals would find an excuse for his wrongdoing to avoid the punishment of the laws, all of which would plunge the society into a disorder situation. On the one hand, people who unduly question authority in the scientific research would have to make suppositions at every step, and then their limited time and energy might be wasted on the meaningless research on which our predecessors have already concluded sound theories. In this sense, the development of our society will stand and the development of the science will never achieve.

In sum, the healthy development of the society calls for proper skepticism of the authority. Without the skepticism, the progress of the society will never accomplish its democratic standards and high-speed advancing in the science and technology. Moreover, the unduly questioning the authority will harm the stability of the society and waste time and energy of the scientists on the worthless repeating of the researches.
