The statement in the issue is a complex question of science, society, and human civilization. I basically agree with the assertion that the nonmainstream science plays an indispensable role in society. Moreover, the relationship between the nonmainstream and mainstream science is rather complex.

To begin with, the nonmainstream science will exist forever, no matter whether the mainstream one can explain the world completely or not. The reason for this argument is that not all the common peoples of the world have the opportunity to know the mainstream science, not mention to understand them. What they can do is to turn to the astrology, fortune-telling, and so on to obtain the answer to their doubts. For instance, a pregnant woman, seriously believing that a boy is prior to a girl, is prone to know whether the child is a boy or a girl, which is a common phenomenon prevalent in china. More often, the women living in the countryside will turn to the fortune-telling people, although there have been technologies to detect the baby’s gender. Therefore, whenever not all the people are well-educated, the nonmainstream science, which can help the under-educated ones to solve their problems, will always exist.

Despite the forever existence of the nonmainstream science, the mutual relationship between the nonmainstream and mainstream science need to examined with delicate carefulness. First of all, from a historical point of view, the objects of the two are the same. When our ancient ancestor happened to know something strange that cannot be explained by their knowledge, they would try to make up some virtual theory to comfort themselves. For example, they did not know why sometimes it was raining hard, sometimes the wind was blowing, and sometimes the sun was shinning brightly. After careful meditation, they could not reach for the answer, and finally they make up a deity in the heaven who had the mighty to perform all the things. This actually is similar to the mainstream science, whose object is to obtain the answer, too. However, it is accomplished by a systematic method.

Whereas the object of the two different sciences is the same, the results of the two are completely different. For the nonmainstream, a lot of beautiful stories are created, such as the ancient Greek myth and the fantastic Chinese tale. All of them give the answers to the puzzles at that time. As for mainstream science, many elegant theories are built such as the mathematics, physics, and the astronomy.

In addition, the nonmainstream science can give rise to mainstream science. The whole human civilization is a process of doubts. Initially, the ancient people use tales to explain the world, and then some people might feel that there are some flaws in the tale. If there are humans living in the heaven, why I have not seen them all my life? Such question may arouse naturally. Finally, the intelligent one will try to explain it in another way, which leads to the mainstream science. This is also the process of society advancement.

To sum up, the nonmainstream science will always exists if there are under-educated people in the world. However, it will lead to the mainstream one until bit by bit the people can completely view it in a scientific way.
