Different people may hold diverse opinions when they come to the controversial issue of the existence of choice. I totally agree with the author that the absence of choice is a circumstance that is very, very rare. I base my view on the following reasons.


Most of us can arrive at the agreement that, most of the time, we are complaining because there are so many choices that we can hardly make a decision. Despite the absence of choices, we are struggling in our mind about what to pick up from abundance of resources. For instance, when we go through the internet to find one place to visit in the coming weekend, surely the situation is that you are absorbed by various information about different places around the country that is worth visit. We can imagine the following step that you discuss with your friends or families about this matter hoping to find a solution of where to go. And this put you into a more intricate situation because they, like you, cannot make a quick decision for there are so many choices that all sound so tempting. So it is always the case that the environment that we are living in is so big and in complexity that it offer us too much things for us to choose.

On the other hand, there do exist some people who claim that they have no choice but have to do something. In fact, it is not practically the absence of choice but the ignorance of the choices or exclusion of some of the possible choices that they think to be not worthy or even harmful. May laid-off worker complain of their misfortune of having to stay at home and have nothing to do. When someone ask them why not go out and hunt for another job, nine out of ten of them will answer: "I have tried, but I can find one." They are disappointed for the actual reason that they cannot find the work that they supposed to have, but not the appearing reason there is no job for them to do. Considering a laid-off typist, accustomed to the comfortable environment in an office with air-conditioning, she can hardly imagine applying for a job in departments that produce certain products. She will not be willing to work as a cleaner because she think it is not a decent job for her although there are plenty of demands of manual workers in the city.

The aforementioned occasion may arise our thought to think widely about choices. Although some choices are not appeal to us present, but we should take them into account for the reason that things might change in the future. Although a high school graduate are force to hunt for job because of lack of money to go to college, it doesn't mean he will lose the chance all his life. Ahter some years, He may be able to support himself to go to college instead of loan money from the bank to go to college at the beginning.

From what has been discussed above, we can safely arrive at the conclusion that the world provides us with sufficient choices for us. The exceptional cases are really rare and their existence should due to our own restricted mind and unwilling to think about some situations that we don't prefer.

我认为还可以从反面来解释为什么有人抱怨选择太少，可以从这句名言得到启发:chances prefer the prepared minds
