What is a leader? The leader is someone that leads his people to work for some purpose. In order to be an effective leader, a public official must maintain the highest ethical and moral standards. However, the leader has to conceal some truths in order to make the lead more effectively.

The society and government always depend on the leader to allocate the power and welfare, so the highest ethical and moral standards play crucial roles in leader’s life. The leader’s major task is to lead his people or workers to work for his company or the government, in some case, the leader is the symbol of the government or the company. In order to be an effective leader, the first thing needs to be done is to let the workers or the people to have confidence on him. If he is lack of this, he will fail to lead, even harm to the government and company. The Mitsubishi Motors leader had concealed significant defects in the break system before apologized to the public. Hundred of the car accidents were directly caused by the break error. This not only influences the mark share of the car, but also damages the image of the company. The same to the political leadership, when the scandals occur to the Nixon, it not only makes him leave the government, but also makes the government lose confidence in the common people. So the ethical and moral standards are dispensable to be an effective leader.

However, the leader has to and is necessary to conceal some information to the public in order to make the society more stable and safer, especially in the political leadership. The first obligation of a government leader is to make the society safe and let the people have the confidence for the future. However, we can not avoid facing some accident and disaster in the daily life. If we told them to the public, they will put the society into chaos, especially when the government has not find the appropriate solution to this emergence. The public official must to conceal the information. When there is terrorism in the society, the common people will suffer more accidents if told at once. At this time, the leader should conceal this information and deal with these things quickly to find the reason. Until these complex things are solved successfully, the leader should not tell these to pubic. Consequently, the appropriate dishonesty will make the society more harmonious and make the people believe the publican official.

Moreover, with the development of the modern society, a public official has to own other abilities, such as the insight for the new phenomena, the special knowledge, and far sight so on. We will face many complex and new things that our predecessors have never meet. The public officials must embrace the ability to solve this problem. In addition, we have to do something that is not only necessary for contemporary, but also important for our offspring. For example, facing the environment problem, the public officials have to plan a far-term project that not only satisfy the needs of the modern industry, but also do not impair our offspring. So some other merits are also important to be an effective leader.

To sum up, I partly consent to the author’s statement with some reservation, through the discussion mentioned above, we can easily reach the conclusion that the highest ethical and moral standards can help the public official to be an effective leader, however, only own other abilities can the leader be a real reader.
