At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species.

观点：现在是人类的活动使得许多动物处于灭绝状态，所以人类应该为此负责。
1、  过去动物的灭绝很大程度上是由于自然环境变化，并可以用达尔文的自然选择解释。这其中关键点当然是自然，但是那时候没有人类存在，或者即使有人类，他们还没有进化和发展到一定程度，当时的人类（工业革命以前）无法剧烈地影响到自然环境。所以以前的自然选择就是真正的自然对物种的选择，或者说是上帝创造的自然。
2、  工业革命以后，人类不仅仅是作为一个自然界中强大的物种，而几乎成了自然界的主宰。他的力量已经可以改变自然环境，例如臭氧层的破坏，水质的变坏，全球变暖，空气质量下降。由此导致生活在同一自然环境中的那些本来已经适应以前自然环境的动物逐渐灭亡。这其实也是一种自然选择，因为从表面的意思看是不能够适应自然的生物会灭亡，那么其他的动植物不能瞬间适应人类改变的自然，才会走向灭亡，所以可以看出，始作俑者还是人类的活动。
3、  那么既然分析得出是人类导致其他很多生物无法生存，那么从道义上说，人类有责任反省和改变自己的行为来保护他们，同时，保护他们也是保护人类自己。因为自然界中任何生物都是互相依赖的，包括强大的人类也无时无刻不依赖于其他生物，所以我们如果因为自己的行为让所有处于这个循环链中的其他生物灭亡，最终有一天，我们也会从这个链中消失。
From daily newspapers or reports, we find that environment decline and creature extinction are the most serious problems that current human faces. Who should be responsible for the crisis? Some self-comforting people shirk the responsibility to nature itself. The reason they hold is Darwin’s theory of nature selection, which is similar to the description mentioned by the author that in the geological past, many species have become extinct caused by nature. However, I do not agree with their viewpoints and persist that human should be in charge of those extinct and endangered animals.

Firstly, I must concede that the extinction of many creatures in past time is largely due to the nature, or the nature choice. Such as a large number of animals suffered death destiny after dinosaur, a animal once considered as the most powerful creature, appeared, or dinosaur’s extinction after a huge rock from the outer space colliding with earth. Darwin explained this phenomenon as nature selection or survival of the fittest. Since at that time human has not yet appeared or even human appeared, it has not evolved or developed to a certain level to be able to affect nature, the real nature or so-called nature which created by God can keep nature balance by itself. However, not any species, even God, does not predict or imagine that human could evolve to a creature with so strong power being able to change nature and other creature’s fates after thousands years.

This huge change happened after Industry revolution. To human race, Industry revolution brought large fortune and comfortable living. But meanwhile, for nature and other animals, this amazing revolution meant the beginning of nightmare. Since then, human not only exists as a powerful creature in the nature, but even becomes the master of the earth. The Antarctic ozone hole, pollution of water and air, greenhouse effects, all of these terrible phenomena occurred during the 20th century. These great changes cause that vast animals and plants cannot adapt to the new environment and die out. It is reported that nearly hundreds of creatures extinct everyday on the earth. How can we explain the disappearance of these animals? It is also a nature selection, but is an artificial nature selection. It is our behaviors that change the nature. Are we should feel glad that ourselves have so strong power that nature has to yield to us?

From above analysis we can clearly understand that human changes the nature which results in the environment degeneration and other animals’ extinction. Therefore, unless considering from the angle of theory or from human their own interest, we should take responsibility to reflect our own behaviors and devote to protect endangered species. On the one hand, the extinction of species is a severe mistake human have made, so like other mistakes, human should do something to mend it. On the other hand, protecting other animals is just protecting human self. Since any creatures in nature depend on each other, human, even as the strongest creature, is relying on other creatures the same all the time. If our behaviors cause lots of other animals composing this circle chain extinct, human will also disappear from the chain one day.

In conclusion, though Darwin’s theory of nature selection can explain the extinction of animals from the past to the present, the present nature is not the past nature. Human’s appearance and their behaviors have created great influence on the nature, which results in the revulsion of natural environment and the extinction of other species. Therefore, Human has no excuse to shirk responsibility of devoting to protect endangered species.
