Does the way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests? By observing the appearance and behavior of its people  can a society's ideas and values  be told? As far as I am concerned, we can tell about a society's ideas and values by appearance and behavior and the way people look, dress, and act.

To begin with, people's look, dress, and act, in certain circumstance, reveals their attitudes and interests. When its coming to researchers and scholars, look at their smile, their concentration, and their activities, where ever its in international conference or in the labor, even the office. Their interests in their research  and project, their attitudes toward the science researching and data's collecting are reflected. Next, turn to the business. When chief executes of a firm negotiates with the partner, make a decision in office, participate in the party of business, their attitude to profit maximization, bottom line, and sales quota, and so forth are revealed clearly. Consider the culture in a society or in a country. Their costume, ceremonies, and rituals in tributes show their religious belief, their interests in values. Look no further than Arab, you can see that the religion belief and their attitude toward the religious in Muslims nations when Arab people wear white robots when taking rituals in masque.

On the other hand, a society's ideas and values, in turn, can be revealed by their appearance and behavior of its people. simply put, in a society which filled war and violence, what's people think about is not how and where to spend vocation and holiday but where to evade and how survive. Hungry and homelessness plague every one in the society all the time and their fear, tear and sorrow in their face have already show that they are under not a better society but a crucial war. On the contrary, in a society of freedom and equality, people have great tolerance of differing viewpoint and people who are different with themselves, great respect with individual right, and great cooperation cross cultural and ethnics boundaries.

Through not only the appearance and behavior of people but also the arts and other cultural forms could we understand a society's ideas and values. Consider the pottery of JingDeZheng in china, the beautiful and subtle artifact reveals the traditional values of compatible and morality of respect others in Chinese culture. The Chinese HuTong, the tradition residential area in large city, reflects the grassroots culture—that is, emphasizing on a big family; and the great wall built in Ming dynasty, have embodied that society’s struggle, as a whole, against evasion of foreign enemies. These cultural forms could well reflect the ideas and values, rather than from the appearance and behavior.   

In conclusion, we can, in general, understand the values and ideas of a society from the appearance and behaviors. Also, through other forms, they can be reflected as well.
