Issue38
In the age of television, reading books is not as important as it once was. People can learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books.
------正文------
The author contends that reading books can not provide as much information as watching television thus it is not as important as before. In my opinion, as a more recent invented form of media, television have many exclusive advantages books do not have which brings its audience new way of getting information. While at the same time, it is doomed to have some disadvantages which can be get from books. In fact, televisions and books are two completely different mass media and can not win over each other.
In the first place, televisions can provide knowledge and information which books can not give. A straight advantage is that it can offer a moving stuff mixed with sound in the scene. For this reason, cartoon is always more popular among the children than caricature. And when we teach a lesson requiring the technique of action such as cooking, the effect from watching the process from television is definitely better than the description of steps from books, just as a Chinese old says," One picture is worth a thousand words." Moreover, the speed and length of distance in transferring information by television is absolutely greater than books. Tue to these merits, remote teaching program and broadcasting turn to be real. So many merits we can get from television which books do not hold.
On the other hand, still books possess some unique advantages in transferring information which television does not have. We all know that after reading a novel, people's impression varies though the words on it is the same because each individual leads a different life. And if this novel is adapted to be a movie, it is quite possible that audiences regard the movie as a failure because the director has his own understanding of the novel which can be different from them. Reading books gives us a space to imagine. We can dream the most beautiful things from these words while television is unable to do. Enchantment of the words is right here.
What's more, when it comes to researching in specific area, hardly can the television can give researchers some useful information. Today's television, to a large extent, is a tool for recreation. People watching television to get relax, not to receive useful information. Concerning the financial need, scarcely can the TV station arrange programs on knowledge of specific area. Besides, even if there are some tutorial programs, no body can guarantee it is shown at the time you are in front of the TV and you need the piece of information on the show. At the light of this situation, I would rather go to library to find books that I want instead of wasting time on the television.
To sum up, as a more recent invented form of media, television has many advantages books do not have. While at the same time, it is doomed to fail in some situation like much of useless information provided and fixed timetable for the program. In contrast, books are arranged well and quite flexible. Therefore, television is still not a consummate channel to get knowledge. The book has its unsubstituted place in media. Both are unable to win over each other.

我留著陪你,最後的距離
是你的側臉倒在我的懷裡
你慢慢睡去,我搖不醒你,淚水在戰壕裡,宏在哪裡,決了堤
