The speaker claims that the way people look,dress,and act reveals their attitudes and interests and the observation of the appearance and behavior of its people could reflect the values and ideas of a society. Admittedly, I concede that to some extent the appearance and action could reveals the attitudes and interests of people and the ideas and values of a society. However to judge the idea and value could not dependent merely on the superficial appearance and behavior of people because of the conformity effect and people can acquire a society's ideas and values through reading the history and cultural circumstance of the society.

First of all, the way people look and dress could, more or less, reveal their attitudes and interests.In most majority of circumstance, people are inclined to choose clothes and patterns according to their yearning life styles and appetite. For instance, the fans of Hip-Pop music tend to wear baggy jeans slung low along the waist which is the contemporary Hip-Pop fashion. People who favor classical literature may be inclined to dress cheongsam in summer. In fact, through the style of preening people desire to express what they pursue and what is the life value that they strive to acquire. As far as I am concerned, attitudes and hobbies have an effect on people's appearance and act.

Secondly, the behavior of people reveals what the society encourages and advocates. There is a telling example to illustrate this point. As we all know, the sense of gentlemanly conduct is the symbol of British, which originated from the Industrial Revolution. Since the behavior of high moral quality of helping others beyond the law requires makes a person positively involved in the community, the tradition of gentlemanly conduct preserves and becomes the indication of British. Through the observation of British's behavior, it is convenient to reveal the ideas of being virtuous feelings and actions.

Admittedly, I concede that appearance and conducts of people could be one of the indications of the social ideas and values. however these two factors are not the only determinant to acquire the society's ideas and values. Because people are tribal animals, which leads us to have a deep need to belong to a group of some sort. Conforming to a group is a signal of dictation to other group members that I am like you, I am not a threat. Thus this signal indicates a person's consistency of behavior, allowing the other people accept. Undoubtedly this effect exists and therefore the direct conducts inference of values and ideas is not always correct and wise in all situations. Besides on the basis of observation of the way people dress and behave in order to acquire attitudes and values of people and society, there are other ways of gaining such information. For instance, reading historical stories is one of the effective approach to acquire the society's values and ideas. Any nation's history expresses their cultural traditions,popular tastes,the democracy and equality of the environment and arts and so forth, which could reflect the society's ideas and values.

In summary, the way people dress and conduct could reveal the attitudes and interests in some extent. Moreover the observation of people' behavior is one of the efficient approach to find out what the society advocates. Yet other factors may influence the styles of behavior such as conformity effect and so it is not the merely way of acquiring social values and ideas.
