issue 147 "Tradition and modernization are incompatible. One must choose between them."

In the modern times, industrialization and modernization have become a unresisting trend throughout the world,and in the mean time, the traditional custom and values are always considered obsolete and useless,which people should abandon.However, is it really necessary for us to choose one between tradition and mordenization?  I think they are not incompatible,instead, we can combine and connect them together.
Firstly, when we mention modernization, maybe the first thing coming into our mind is the convenient transportation and advanced medical science, which have been saving hundreds of thousands of people's lives.Without the development of transportation, it would still take three months to travel from Europe to American,which can be covered in one day,and without the advancement of medical science,giving birth to children would  be the main killers of women all the same.Modernization does not only take unprecedented conveniences and benefits to people  materially, but it also brings out great reform in people's values and society's ideology.It is modernization that releases women from babysitters and servers of families, and give them opportunities to realize their dreams and individual values.It is Modernization that makes black slavery regain what belongs to every human being--liberty and respect as an individual.Modernization plays more emphasis on equality and human rights,which no doubt conforms to the rules of  morality.

It is true that modernization has promoted people's spiritual and material life to a more advanced phase, however, it also brings evil to society, such as the corruption of morality, malversation of the government, and endless pollution to environment. In this case, if we resort to some traditional values and ethics, many problems will be solved naturally.
Tradition is the custom, ethics and values handing down from generation to generation, which to many person's views is out of date and an obstacle of the society's development. In fact, tradition contains a nation's wisdom and culture which is invaluable and the spring of original thoughts.\For example,in many remarkable enterprisers' eyes, the best works related to management is not the text book from Harvard commercial department, instead, is an old Chinese book called CaiGenTan, which regards management as a life's art other than a kind of technical skill. More and more environmentalist believe that only the thought of LaoZi can solve the environmental problems, the essence of which is everything should follow the rule of nature, otherwise, people will get the nature's punishment. So, in the modern world, the transmission of traditional distillation is becoming more and more significant, because it tells people life's meaning and how to live a happy life other than endless pursuit of material enjoyment.
All in all, without modernization, people will be encircled with attack of hunger and illnesses, and some people cannot possess of an individual's respect and rights; without tradition, people will fall into an unsatisfied desire of material comfort and enjoyment .As a result, combining modernization and tradition will be the only choice of human beings. 484
