It is true that when students are studying what they are interested in, education may be very effective, however, it is really hard for education to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, furthermore, the primary purpose of education is to cultivate some valuable characters of the students regardless whether they are interested in it.

Admittedly, education may be very effective if it meets the individual needs and interests of each student.  Given the chance to study in the aspect he/she is interested in, a student may learn much effectively. For example, in a class which meets the students’ interest, students may think actively and put much concern on every word the teacher says. But in a class which seems not interesting at all, students may be lazy to think and even fall to sleep.

However, it is really hard for education to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. There are three reasons: First, influenced by many elements, a student may not show his/her true interest. For example, usually under the pressure of one's parents, a student has to study what his/her parents want him/her to learn Second, as time goes by, a student's interest may change as well. Usually at first some students were interested in mathematics, but when in a certain chance they find art is very mysterious and interesting, they may change the interest into art. Finally, even education can exactly catch the idea that what every student wants to learn and can change as soon as the interests of the students change, we should consider that there are thousands of students in one school with various interests and needs, how can a school which has limited amount of money and faculty exactly meet each interest and need?

Furthermore, the primary purpose of education is to cultivate some valuable characters of the students regardless whether they are interested in it. Education has to improve the students’ morality as well as the skills living in this complex society. Thus achieving this purpose should be put in the first place no matter what students are interested in. Sometimes even some students have improper needs and interests--such as spending too much time in video game --education should correct these wrong ideas rather than cater to them。

In sum, although it is very effective to meet the individual needs and interests of each students in education, true education has to follow the main purpose--to teach student valuable characters as well as how to survive in this complex society.
