In our society, there exist both mainstream science and nonmainstream areas of inquiry. Most people nowadays believe mainstream science. While still some people firmly believe nonmainstream areas of inquiry as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal. As far as I am concerned, it is unfair to say that nonmainstream takes most part of importance in our society.

Admittedly, nonmainstream areas of inquiry has lasted for so long because of some certain advantages it brings. Human's fate has never been clarified by people. As a result, an area about human's fate is very popular with people. "What will happen in the furture?" "If I did some venture will it worthy or not? " These problems often make people in a dilemma. Therefore, people in most likelihood, believe such nonmainstream as astrology, fortune-telling, and psychic and paranormal. The answers from these areas, no matter right or wrong, often make people lighthearted. From this point, we can see that it plays an important part in relieve people's mind. In other words, it is necessary in our society.

However, nonmainstream also brings bad effect, such as making society unstable. Some people who deeply believe in nonmainstream areas, often miss reasoning, even become wild. Take the great event in China---FaLun Gong, as an example. Two years ago, the number of people who have particapated in an organization--FaLun Gong, which was organized by Lihong Zhi, who just graduated from junior school, is greatly increasing. Just in several months, there are millions of people in the organization, who are nearly from every place in China. Subquently, suicides, killing kins, seting fire and other kind of crime become ghastly rising.  Most of these crimes are made by the members of the organization. With close surveys to check out the causal of these actions, government has knowed that most of them do that because they are taught by their leader--Lihong Zhi, who advocate that death will lead them to heaven, and some of their kins are evil so that they should be killed. Nearly every person who has joined in it seems grazy and do not reasonning at all. That has made China in confusion in a long time. From this event, we can easily find that nonmainstream areas of inquiry,  if not well developed, sometimes will mislead people and make society unstable.

Last but not least, mainstream science is the primary power to bring progress to society and brings many benefits to people. Living at nowdays, we can easily observe that many appliances that are very necessary to us are products of scientific techniques. For example, frigeration, television, computer, radio and so forth. These are all necessities in our daily life. Techniques often create a more cleary world to us. Knowledge in every field, often gives bright road to us and make us certain to do something. Thus we are more confident to get achievement. Science has made great progress to our world and life more easy. It will always take the most important part in our society.  

In conclusion, to some extent, we should not eliminate nonmainstream areas of inquiry, because they often play an important role in relieving people's worry or may directy lead people to do something rightly. But we still cannot just let these areas goes arbitrarily, that may possibily bring bad effect to us. Further I believe science will never cheat us and in most cases, it brings benefit to our society.
