ISSUE 153
- "Students should bring certain skepticism to whatever they study. They should question what they are taught instead of accepting it passively."

With the high speed of technological advancement, modern education has played a much more significant role than ever as a result of its fundamental principle of cultivating knowledge and developing the critical thinking. Therefore increasing number of people is involved in the hot discussion whether the students should question whatever they learn or just passively absorbed the knowledge. In my view, the students should form the skeptical attitude to what they are taught under deliberate investigation and careful consideration.

To begin with, the skeptical attitude is a very basic quality for every student to develop, for a certain degree of criticism towards things taught to them usually encourage them to think profoundly on the established theories, principles and laws. Driven by the skepticism, the students will comprehensively analyze all the factors that the theories, principles and laws based on and scrutinizing thoroughly the procedure of the inference of the exist ones. Furthermore, the students will conduct the experiments to prove or disprove those or go to library to consult a vast number of reference books and information that may spark the inspiration of the students. After experiments or consults, the students may recognize the truth themselves or identify the flaws what printed in the books and words said by authority, which is more valuable than passive crammed with miscellaneous facts without no time to digest and evaluate the knowledge. In short, it is obvious that the skepticism of the knowledge will encourage the students to participate in the learning process and gain more than being stuffed with numerous data and facts.

Without skepticism, no great progress will be made in any academic field. Bringing certain skepticism might inspire the students to question the authority and thus may make some discoveries in the future. Things taught to students may not always be right and beliefs hold by our ancestors or parents might not be suitable to our contemporary people. True knowledge must be verified and tested with a long period of time and under the frame of large scope of perspectives. Students who had paid attention to this point and brought skepticism are more likely to make important discoveries than their peers who had not. Historical examples on science will provide ample evidence to illustrate this. Without the skepticism towards the notion of earth-centered universe, Copernicus would never expect to advocate his great discovery on the real center of the universe--the sun. Moreover, thanks to the skepticism towards Aristotle's theory, Galileo conducted famous experiments in the Leaning Tower of Pizza and finally discovered and proved the Law of Free Fall.

However, the skepticism without any careful account and firm support may plunge people especially the innocent students into the crazy situation that questioning whatever they confront. On one hand, undue skepticism will harm the harmony and stability of the society. Over-criticizing with others' ideas may cause the students to keen on their own interests and sacrifice the benefits of whole society. On the other hand, questioning whatever they confront will only trap themselves in the marsh of cycling criticisms, wasting the priceless time and efforts that may contribute to other discoveries. It is no use doubting the common sense that has already tested through years of practice, such as the laws that the shortest distance between two points is the lineal line. Trying to prove or question the common sense will only amount to futile attempts and obstacle the ways of further learning.

In sum, equipping with a certain skepticism will inspire students study more effectively and efficiently and may make outstanding discoveries in the future. However, undue skepticism is only a waste of time and efforts, which prevents students from learning more.

With the high speed of technological advancement, modern education has played a much more significant role than ever as a result of its fundamental principle of cultivating knowledge cultivate mind?)and developing the critical thinking. Therefore increasing number of people is involved in the hot discussion whether the students should question whatever they learn or just passively absorbed the knowledge. In my view, the students should form the skeptical attitude to what they are taught under(是不是想说在这样的前提下,这样写法好像不太对哦,用with不好么?) deliberate investigation and careful consideration.

To begin with, the skeptical attitude is a very basic quality(quality 不可数哦) for every student to develop, for a certain degree of criticism towards things taught to them usually encourage(s) them to think profoundly on the established theories, principles and laws. Driven by the skepticism, the students will comprehensively analyze all the factors that the theories, principles and laws(少了谓语 ) based on and scrutinizing thoroughly the procedure of the inference of the exist ones.

总结一下这段的观点:怀疑能够让学生更深刻的探索问题,所以是必备的素质。(怀疑的好处)

Moreover, thanks to the skepticism towards Aristotle's theory, Galileo conducted famous experiments in the Leaning Tower of Pizza and finally discovered and proved the Law of Free Fall.(没有总结)

这段的观点:没有怀疑,个个学术领域都不会有真正伟大的进步。(感觉稍微有点以偏概全)阐述了一下怀疑的原因后,依然是讲怀疑的好处,而且写的和上一段有些重复。
However, the skepticism without any careful account and firm support may plunge people especially the innocent students into the crazy situation that questioning whatever they confront. On(the) one hand, undue skepticism will harm the harmony and stability of the society.

In sum, equipping with a certain skepticism will inspire students study more effectively and efficiently (读起来不太顺,嘿嘿)and may make outstanding discoveries in the future. However, undue skepticism is only a waste of time and efforts, which prevents students from learning more.
