TOPIC: ISSUE17 - "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws."

提纲:
1.        在我们的历史上,推翻维护专制的法律是追求自由和民主过程中不可避免的一步
2.        即使在民主社会,人们对于不公平的法律的反抗也有利于社会的进步
3.        这样的反抗必须限定在理性的范围以内

Should people disobey any law that they considered to be unjust? In my opinion, although people's resistance against such kind of laws may cause certain extent of turbulence/tumult/chaos among the masses/the people/the multitude/the public, it is people's courage and effort to disobey or even act against such unjust laws that actually has pushed our society forward.

In human history, people’s pursuit of freedom and democracy frequently conflicted with existing laws or authority. Since laws are official rules and regulations to govern a society and control the behaviors of the social members, it is possible that in an autocratic society such laws are against the general well-beings of normal people and restrict their aspiration for human rights. If so, only by overthrowing such unjust laws and the rule basing on such laws could normal people of the society to secure freedom and human rights. George Washington, Nelson Mandela and Gandhi, our history is replete with shining names of great heroes who ever called upon their people to fight against the unjust laws system and finally led them to independence and freedom. Simply put, without people's courage and effort to fight against unjust laws in an autocratic society, the ideal of a democratic society may never be actualized.

Even in a democratic society, people's effort to disobey unjust laws and defend their beliefs has actually promoted the freedom, equality, prosperity and justice of the society. Although in a democratic society, normal people are enabled to express their desires and exert their influence on how laws are formulated and actualized, the principle of general election usually suppresses the voice of the disadvantaged minority. When such situation becomes extreme, the rule and laws basing on such principle may actually become tools of oppression and radically contradict with the spirit of democracy. In this case, people's resistance against such laws would actually promote the justice and equity of the society. Rosa Parks’ courageous act against Jim Claw laws in 1955 actually began to turn the wheels of civil rights movement in 1960s and Muhammed Ali’s short defense” I ain't got no quarrel with them Viet Cong” against the prosecution of draft dodging by the government not only fully expressed his political views but also defended the dignity of free will. Such resistance against unjust laws, whether carried out by normal people like Rosa Parks or successful individuals like Ali, would actually promote the development of our society.

Admittedly, unconditional freedom of the public to disobey whatever laws that they consider to be unjust would actually cause tumult and instability of the society. In a democratic society, people are free to hold various political views or religionary beliefs. Since such ideas or beliefs could possibly be prejudiced and parochial, people's resistance against the existing laws or social regulations basing on these ideas or beliefs may actually arouse unnecessary combats among the masses.

From what has been discussed above, we may safely reach the conclusion that it is rational and necessary for people to disobey unjust laws to pursue their human rights. And the society should try its best to confine such efforts within the range of rationality.

Should people disobey any law that they considered to be unjust? In my opinion, although people's resistance against such kind of laws may cause certain extent of turbulence(这三次词中我觉得这个词更准确)/tumult/chaos among the masses/the people/the multitude/the public(好,呵呵,偶学到东西了,这四个词都很好), it is people's courage and effort to disobey or even act against such unjust laws that actually has pushed our society forward.

In human history, people’s pursuit of freedom and democracy frequently conflicted with existing laws or authority(似乎觉得少了一点,什么不知道这样行不行:Conflicting with existing laws or authority seems to be an inevitable step to pursue freedom and democracy of a society. ). When such situation becomes extreme, the rule and laws basing on such principle may actually become tools of oppression and radically contradict with the spirit of democracy(是这样的么?意思不太理解,汗). Such resistance against unjust laws, whether carried out by normal people like Rosa Parks or successful individuals like Ali, would actually promote the development of our society.(赞一下例子,很好,不过我都没有看懂,,,可能偶才疏学浅,不知道这些事情了,呵呵)
