Investigating in different appearances and acts of people who came from various nations are interesting. Their wearing, ways of expressing, gestures and actions towards the same thing indicate their multifarious attitudes and interests, and you can tell much about the ideas and values of societies they are living in by observing the appearances and behaviors of them.

Have you ever noticed the way of dressing of each nation all over the world? If the answer is no, I’ll introduce to you. Even if you have never seen a Briton or a German you must have watched Chaplin’s movies and known the way Chaplin dressed. Orthodox suit is popular whenever in Britain and Germany. Hat, tie, shoe leather, these assembled a vision of gentle, precise, and scrupulous. And that vision is exactly the Britons and Germans like. When referring to Italian, what vision will you suggest? A woman’s shadow might come to your mind, the one who is in a delicate rococo dress showing her art interest. French women, yet prefer longuette that looks elegant as a noble. When it comes to American, the situation will be absolutely changed. In the U.S.A. a T-shirt and a pair of jeans would be the best choice of dressing, totally due to the attitude of American towards life, of which taking comfortable and convenient as the primary rule. This combination also shows an obvious character of American, that is, individuality and enjoying liberty. The most representative example that we can guess the society’s idea from its people’s appearance occurs from Islamic countries such as India, Iraq, and Iran. The conservative impression of an Iraq woman must exist in your mind—a huge headband covering her whole head even the whole body and only her eyes exposure. From the unforgettable image we could easily find out the answer to the question what does her society like. A country under strict religion charging and with feudal castle system is vividly portrayed by the way of dressing of its people. Do you remember the red dress with a swollen edge which the Spanish girl wore in the opera Carmen? Nothing can represent the character of the Spanish girl than those clothes, from which we can touch the optimistic quality of the gypsy nation. So, the ways that people wearing always tell us vividly the essential society qualities.

Similarly observing into the ways of impressing their feelings also could help us catching the line of societies. As a most direct way of expressing, music could tell various many. When hearing a musicale of symphony or an opera, we can’t help being touched by the impressive atmosphere of European. The magnificent movements are full of European noble senses. And when a piece of Russian music performed, we can nearly see the happy people dancing around a fire surrounded by birches. Their optimistic and brave characters are well expressed by the bright rhythm. Similarly to the lively ardent music of Span, the undamped ardor is like hot winds in summer greeted us. It gives us a general impression of Spanish—they have active attitude towards life. How about the U.S.A.? To answer the question you should listen to the country music. How will you feel? Yes, that’s a general portray of American’s attitude—yearning a free and artlessness life. Therefore, nothing can tell a nation’s attitude towards life so picturesquely as the way of expressing their feelings such as music.

Then let’s pay attention to the behaviors of people from different areas, they can tell us the society’s value as well. Have you greeted to an American? In the U.S.A., a “hello” with hands waving would be ok for greeting. However, remember never to act as this to a German or a Japanese, otherwise you might be consider absence of manners. Investigating in this circumstance, we could make a preliminary conclusion to the different societies. Americans might like leading an easy life, and the value of society might emphasis gastronomy. For Japanese and Germany, they are likely to prefer a life that is precise and regular. Therefore their societies is presumed not very admit the gastronomy but to emphasis some strict rules of living. When it comes to the Islamic countries the situation might be even more serious as those extremely severe regulations in their society. And in these societies, values might absolutely differ from Western countries. Obviously, it is the values of the societies that make the particular actions of its people. Consequently, researching on these actions we could suggest what their societies are like.

In a word, the way people look, dress, and act could exactly reveal their attitudes and interests. We can tell much about a society’s ideas and values by observing the appearance and behaviors of its people. 字数：793
