The video camera provides such an accurate and convincing record of contemporary life that it has become a more important form of documentation than written records.
------正文------
The statement asserts that the video camera has become a more important form of documentation than written records, because it provides more accurate and convincing record of contemporary life. Admittedly, the video camera has such advantages. Yet whether it is more crucial than written document remains a question, and the answer to this question depends on different occasions and different intentions.
Compared with written records, the video camera is more objective and can provide more details, and therefore serves as a perfect reappearance of contemporary life. While written records can only describe and present what has been seen and heard by the writers, the video camera offers people direct, vivid, and comprehensive images as well as voice. Obviously, when recording dances, dramas, concerts, or exhibitions, when document hurricanes, dust storms, or earthquakes, and when register accidents, demonstrations, or sports games, the video camera is the most useful method. Without video camera, the beauty of dances can only be imagined, the evolvement of hurricanes cannot be view completely, the truth of accidents can be concealed, and the excitement of sports games cannot be actually felt. The video camera is undoubtedly accurate and convincing, and palys an essential role in documentation, especially for those short but changeable events, which require detailed and continuous records.
Nevertheless, in some domains, the video camera is not likely to become more important than written records. While the objective video camera is used to reproduce, the comparably subjective written records are used to emphasize and conclude, especially for events or phenomena which are complex and cover a vast time scale. Written records are sorts of information which have been processed by people's thoughts, tendencies, and intentions, and then become understandings, theories, and practical rules, rather than pure information. They reflect cultures of different times and regions, and contribute to the study of philosophy, society, and humanity. They act as result of researches, and contribute to the development of academy, technology, and economy.
Additionally, even for events which are short and changeable, written records cannot be replaced by the video camera. Take baseball match for example, though the video camera is usually available, it is necessary for judges, coaches, and players to write down documents themselves. They have to look at records in order to control the development of the entire match, and written records appear to be more useful just because it is simpler and easier to read. While the detailed documents recorded by the video camera need more time to achieve further analysis, the simple written records enable them to make decisions quickly and efficiently. Moreover, written records provide information which can be easily used in statistics, while the documents offered by the video camera are rudimentary and need greater efforts. As a result, it is arbitrary to claim that the video camera is more useful than written records.
In conclusion, just as that has been stated, the video camera provides such accurate and convincing information that can never be offered by written records. However, it is unsubstantiated to conclude that written records are of less importance. Written records demonstrates people's thoughts, tendencies, and intentions, which cannot be emphasized by the video camera, and even for events short and changeable, which eagerly demand video documents, written records cannot be ignored.
