How will education be really effective? Education is the most effective when it pursue itself objective. Both to satisfy social requirement and to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, I think, are the purposes of education.

In the first place, as one of its purposes, education should meet the individual needs. While each student wants to get what he or she needs from education, education, in practice, play an important role in every aspects which the students pay attention to. Education educates students every aspects of knowledge about the world, when they need to know more about it. Education instructs students the fundamental skill in the life when they will walk out of the school life and into the rough and tumble of the real life. Education makes students understand the logic, the deduction and the reasoning when they want to think about something. Education encourages students to suspect the authority and think their own thoughts when they need innovation. Therefore, when students have their own new and different needs, education should try its best to meet the requirements, which is one of the purposes of education.

In the second place, education should meet interests of each student. As an old say goes, "Interest is the best teacher." Interest could make students not only study on their own initiative, but to learn what they are interested in efficiently and rapidly. Interest could make students not only be intent on their studies but also to enjoy the learning with great pleasure. Interest could develop students' abilities and encourage them dive into the sea of knowledge deeper and deeper. Take Edison as an example. At his age of eight, he was removed from school because the teacher though him as an imbecile. Fortunately, his mother brought him a so good education meeting his interest that he read much in his youth and finally made a great contribution to the progress of man. Let us imagine that if the education does not join in Edison's interest, we would have neither the phonograph nor the electric light. What terrible the world will be!

However, it is not enough that education only designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. Let's imagine if the case unfortunately happens, what will the word be? If more and more students want to start a business and earn more money, let's think about it, who will develop the fundamental research and what will ensure the development of science? If most of students are interested in the popular disciplines such as computer, medicine and law, there must be too much students rushing into the market so that lots of them can not take a good job while other disciplines will develop slowly due to lack of manpower. Finally, it will be going against the development of the society.

As another purpose of education, education should satisfy the social requirements. First of all, education should make sure that the language, tradition and culture of a nation or a society will be inherited by its people. Through education, the culture links different generations and individuals to work and live together in the same nation or society. So the civilization of human society can pass down from generation to generation. In addition, education should do its best to uniform the value of people. The similar or same value not only makes different individuals to live peacefully and happily, but promotes stability and unity of the state. In a world, the function of education to satisfy the social needs ensures that the society develops in one direction.

Without meeting the individual requirements and interests of each student, education will be lack of the individual involved and eventually inefficient. Without satisfying the social needs, the society will lose its own direction and ultimately collapse. Therefore, both take a vital part in education.
