The speaker limits the value of history to the extent that history is relevant to people's daily lives, which I cannot agree. History is remarkbly evaluated not only of providing human beings with profits to deal with everyday events and activities, but of improving conditions for future generations and the environment.
Admittedly, the study of history has perfect value when it is relevant to people's everyday lives. Scholars refer to their predecessors to find out effective implements to achieve their academic goals, while businessmen study history records of economy in order to maintain steady market and pleasant profits. Students depend on their past experience to look for efficient ways to pass exams, while officials rely on their past successful diplomacies to solve complex relationships. Success in history shows people excellent schemes to achieve targets, while mistakes in history exhibits relative warings. History study is undoubtedly beneficial when it is associated with people's everyday events and activities, as it offers people valuable references, experiences, and standards.
However, the value of history study is not limited to the extent that it is related to people's daily lives, but demonstrated when people want to improve conditions of future generations and the environment. The study of meteorologic prehistoric natural records gives people examples of the evolvement of golbal climate changing, which are relevant to the desirabilities of future climate status rather than everyday whether conditions. Although these records never indicates how many clothes people should wear or what food should be eaten, they offers people information about how to protect global environment for future human generarions as well as other creatures. Besides, the study of cultural documents inhistory not only offers people to understand other teammates, neighbors, residents, and nations, which is used in everyday diplomacies, but also leaves bridges for future generations to communicate with traditional cultures, which is not relevant to contemporary everyday activities at all, but enables future human beings to better understand their ancestors and nations. As the evolement of history provides people with valuable references with the development of future, history study enables human beings to predict future events and conditions. Though some part of history study is not relevant to people's dauly life, it is significantly valuable as it enables human beings to find effective ways to improve the situation for either human generations or natural environment.
In conclusion, the value of history study lies not only in the field relevant to people's everyday lives, but in the domain of making better conditions for future generarions and the environment as well.
