TOPIC: ISSUE208 - "The way people look, dress, and act reveals their attitudes and interests. You can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its people."

1.在很多国家，从人们的穿着打扮可以出一些社会价值之类的。
2.毕竟人的思想复杂，很多时候表里不一，无法从表面判断内心甚至是society idea
3.观察society idea 应该从更多的方面，比如文化，科技，教育，政治等。
To some extent, I  agree that the speaker's assertion that a society's ideas and values can be revealed by the observation of  appearance and behavior of its people as well as  people's attitudes and interests is true in some respects. Further, the speaker failed to consider much more important factors which would play  central role in finding out a society's ideas and values.

In many countries, people's dress is distinctive that can be distinguished from another's and represented their nation's traits. In Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Egypt where Arabs constitute the overwhelming majority of the population .The aba which is always black or write is arab's invariable apparel. As well known that it is due to their own faith, Islamic religion. The Islamic religion predominates in most  Arab nations .Today, it has been used as an ideological tool to justify the power of the ruling class. Besides of this case ,we can easily find similar phenomenon in China. During the Cultural Revolution, Chinese people would rather accouterment belong to soldier , and often adorned budge of chairman Mao. They all think this wearing as the greatest glory.   All of these presents people's idea and society's complexion.

However, with the development of our society, we have to concede that human's thought have become more  complicated and capricious . It is very hard to seek for one's real idea. Consider, for example . today's politician which is the best representative of duplicity . In any public circumstance, they invariably wear business suit and talk cheerfully and humorously. They always  allege that  creating  a beautiful future is their responsibility and they will devote themselves to it. Though these verbalisms seems very nice, myriads of proverbial scandal betray those false politician intrinsic idea that using power to meet their own demands. Watergate falls into category. To  defeat the opposed party, the politican belong to Nixon’s party filched other's secret archives and endanger the nation's  security.

Even if we identify with the speaker’s assertion that a society’s ideas and values can be revealed by the observation of appearance and behavior. much more crucial elements are must not neglected by those observers. It is necessary to study a nation's culture ,polity ,and the level of its technology for deeply understand a society's ideas and values. For example, in china, today the party which reigns is Communist Party. So we can comprehend the whole country pursue communism. The ultimate goal is an equality among people here. Moreover, Communist parties have existed in many countries of the world ,suchas the USSR, France, Italy and so forth. However, the society's idea in these countries are different from in China because of discrepancy among them. The USSR, today Russia is representative. The USSR had a totalitarian political system in which Communist Party leaders held political and economic power while in china is more democratic .And it has one of the widest varieties of ethnic groups in the world,but ethnic Russians form the vast majority of the population. Its culture is confused by these ethnic groups ,compared with in china culture of the Han nationality rules others.Further, education in Russia advanced significantly during the Soviet period. In 1918 the soviet government instituted free, compulsory schooling , which enabled most Russians to receive a good vasic education . As a result, Russia has an extremely high literacy rate. More the 99 percent of the population over age 15is literate .However, most of Chinese children from farm illiterate.

In sum , human's ideology often is too enigmatical to be known by the conservation of appearance . To  observe rightly a society's idea and values, we should consider other more important elements except for superficial methods.
