One can tell much about a society's ideas and values by observing the appearance and behavior of its residents, and the way people look, dress, and act reveals their inclinations and respects.

First of all, the way people look, dress, and act indicates people's evaluation of beauty. People love beautiful objects and would like to be appraised in appearance as well as behavior by others. As a result, they control the look of their bodies and faces, and restrict their sentences and activities, according to their evaluation of beauty. The majority of people become fatter when they prefer fat, while most people would like to lose weight when they prefer thin. Various skills of hair dressing, skin protecting, and clothes designing have appeared in different times and different regions, demonstrating contemporary people's inclinations of appearance. Noble women living in palaces would like to make themselves splendid, in order to show their plenty wealth and romantic thoughts, whereas women living on grassland prefer to dress simple and convenient clothes, as they respect activity rather than appearance. Moreover, while some nations emphasize words and sentences used in different occasions and with different people, so as to demonstrate their graceful diplomacy and respectable civilization, some other nations do not pay any attention to such restrictions, in order to show their inclination of equality and freedom. As a result, people's appearance and behavior reveal people's standards of beauty, both outside and inside.

Besides, the way people look, dress, and act demonstrates the patterns and conditions of a society. The same hair styles of all citizens indicates strict traditions and restrictions of a society, while colorful hair styles in the street exhibit the society patterns of tolerance and freedom. Traditional clothes in everyday activities express residents' high pride of their nation and culture, whereas formal clothes at working places emphasize people's awareness of carefulness and efficiency. Furthermore, while marriages decided by parents reveals more consideration of economy or politics than that of personal intentions, often in a society where surviving problem is more severe than development, majors chosen by oneself indicate the respect of individual variety and possibility, usually in a society rich in materials and free in ideas. Therefore, people's appearance and behavior not only demonstrate the status of politics and the styles of cultures, but also reveal people's fundamental consideration of their lives.

In conclusion, by observing people's appearance and behavior, one can tell much about people's evaluation of beauty and the patterns of a society. The way people look, dress, and act demonstrates their preference understanding of beauty, and reveals the economic, politic, as well as cultural status of a society.
