写得太多了,这种散乱的题,实在不知道要怎样才能把字数压下来,有效的逻辑错误太多也很令人头痛。。。

------题目------
The following is a recommendation from the personnel director to the president of Acme Publishing Company.
'Many other companies have recently stated that having their employees take the Easy Read Speed-Reading Course has greatly improved productivity. One graduate of the course was able to read a five-hundred-page report in only two hours; another graduate rose from an assistant manager to vice president of the company in under a year. Obviously, the faster you can read, the more information you can absorb in a single workday. Moreover, Easy Read costs only $500 per employee—a small price to pay when you consider the benefits to Acme. Included in this fee is a three-week seminar in Spruce City and a lifelong subscription to the Easy Read newsletter. Clearly, Acme would benefit greatly by requiring all of our employees to take the Easy Read course.'
------正文------
The personnel director recommends the president of Acme Publishing Company to require all their employees to take the Easy Read course. To support this conclusion, the personnel director illustrates the participation of many other companies and the success of the graduates. However, the recommendation is not convincing enough to be accepted by the president.
First of all, it is unverified to expect productivity improvement of Acme Publishing Company after taking Easy Read Speed-Reading Course. On one hand, the credibility of the information that many companies have improved productivity by sending their employees to the course should be carefully examined. On the other hand, the similarity as well as difference between Acme Publishing and other mentioned companies should be studied in detail. Do those companies conduct the same business as Acme Publishing's? Is the productivity of Acme Publishing mainly restricted by reading speed? Without answering these questions, it is unjustifiable to claim that taking Easy Read Course will improve Acme Publishing Company's productivity.
Besides, it is unsubstantiated to attribute the success of the two mentioned graduates to Easy Read Course. While the graduate who can read a five-hundred-page report in two hours may have possessed this ability before taking the course, the other graduate who has become vice president within a year may have achieved this success by virtue of other reasons, such as great assiduity, perfect diplomacy, or accidental fortunes. As no evidence can convince the relationship between the success of graduates and Easy Read Course, the two examples illustrated by the personnel director cannot support his recommendation.
Besides, it is unreasonable to announce that the faster one reads, the more information one can absorb in a single workday. Admittedly, the faster one reads, the more information one can receive in the same amount of time. Nevertheless, no one can ensure that the information received will also be completely absorbed, especially when one reads the information at a tremendous speed. Moreover, as the high reading speed is likely to make the reader tired within a short period of time, how long the one who reads faster can maintain this high efficiency remains a question. As a result, it is unverified to deduce that faster reading can increase everyday information absorption.
Additionally, even if taking Easy Read Course can improve the productivity of Acme Publishing Company, it is unwise to recommend all employees to take the course. At least, it is unreasonable to require employees who do not deal with reading at all, such as computer technicians, engineers, and cleaners, to take such an expensive reading course which costs $500 per employee. In their cases, taking such a course is no more than a waste of money, while neither the seminar nor the lifelong subscription can make them interested.
In conclusion, it is unverified to claim that Acme will benefit greatly by requiring all their employees to take the Easy Read course. The personnel director fails to examine either the situation of Acme Publishing as well as other companies, or the reality of the graduates success. Moreover, while misunderstanding the relationship between reading speed and information absorption, the personnel director unwisely recommend all Acme's employees to take the course without considering the necessity of each employee. |
