The speaker asserts that it is a grave mistake to theorize before one has data, which I cannot agree at all. Although theorizing before one has data often induce inaccurate or incorrect results, the activity itself is a not a deleterious mistake, but a challenging risk.

Admittedly, theorizing before data collection often induces inaccurate or incorrect results. While deficient data cannot exhibit the truth of events and objects, incomprehensive consideration and careless attitudes lead to errors and mistakes. It is difficult to avoid generating unreasonable results without accurate and detailed data collection.

However, it is unwise to consider the activity of theorizing before data collection a grave mistake. On the contrary, such an activity is not only an effective attempt to achieve efficient data collecting schemes, but also a necessary method to develop human imagination and creativity.

First of all, theorizing before one has data helps people approach efficient data collecting schemes, and thus reduce the expenses of time, energy, as well as money. In the realm of academy, theorizing is not the final target of a scientific study, but a perfect method to illustrate possibilities. Generally, without necessary theories, it is difficult for people to distinguish important or characteristic data from others, especially when the researching subject is complex. For example, when studying the evolvement of a hurricane, people have to develop several possible theories of the evolvement in advance. With these existing theories, they can focus on the characteristic data collection, and then evaluate the correctness of each theory as well as develop more comprehensive theories. Through such schemes, they do not have to document every detail of the hurricane and deal with correspondingly confusing data collection. Moreover, as no one can ensure the correctness of data collection, the comparison between theories and observations serves as an excellent method to examine the quality of the data and identify unreasonable ones. As a result, theorizing before data collection is a profitable risk which provides people with effective data collecting schemes and fewer requirements of time, energy, as well as money expenses.

Besides, theorizing before data collection is a necessary exercise for human beings to develop imagination and creativity. No matter how misleading or absurd the theories are, they contribute to the development of human civilization significantly by demonstrating and encouraging people's imagination and creativity. Prehistoric people invented stories about the sun and the moon, while modern human beings construct the civilization on other planets. Even these theories without the faintest data base, which cannot contribute to scientific areas, have shown great value in the domains of literature, sculpture, and painting. The development of imagination and creativity does not only make human culture splendid, but also enables further exploration in scientific fields.

In conclusion, while the results of theorizing before data collection are often inaccurate and incorrect, the activity itself is not a grave mistake which should be avoided and negated. In fact, such an activity is a challenging but profitable risk, through which human beings are able to discover effective data collecting scheme and improve their imagination and creativity.
