TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."
WORDS: 491          TIME: 0:45:00          DATE: 2006-7-17

Will education be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, as the speaker assert? The effective way of educating involves the mental development level of the student. In general, I agree with the speaker, but when it comes to early years of a student, it is not comprehensible to adapt free education, as is discussed below.

To begin with, I concede with the speaker that education meeting one's needs and interests is effective. As is well known, the interest of a subject helps the student not lose heart when a difficulty is lying ahead. Interest can transmute dreary learning process into involving recreation time. For example, both boys joined a same piano class, while one of them has a passion for piano, and the other is blind to piano. It is easy to expect a better performance of the first child, since his interest in piano helps him overcome challenges with high spirit and confidence. So, it is interest that makes a student learn by himself with passion, and which is the most effective way of education.

Also, education concerning individual's interests is effective for it gives an abundance of space and availability to a student to develop himself. It is like growing a plant. If we give limited nutritions to a seedling, it would definitely not grow so well, or even withering. But if we put the seedling into an open area with sufficient water, sunshine and other supplements, the plant may grow to a big tree. A student is just like the seedling, that is to say too much constrain can only circumscribe his development into a huge tree. Thus the great freedom to students assures them to dig out their potentials which makes education effective and meaningful.

However, the speaker overstated the importance of individual in the educational process, as overlooked the role played by parents and teachers. To some extent, compulsory education is vital to the student.

The student being young, compulsory education can prevent him from going to the wrong track. While in early years of a child, his judgment of good and bad has not fully developed, thus he is easily influenced by people around. During this time, he is vulnerable and sensible, and thus compulsory eduction can help him get away from bad influences, and form a sound and mature view about world around him. Compulsory education is designed by professional educators who best know what a child should need and where he should be guided to. So compulsory education is effective in early stages of a child.

//感觉这一段写的超级啰嗦。。。超级车轱辘话。。。。。。。。。

To sum up, freedom in education is in general effective, for it provides the student with abundant choices and great impulsion in learning process. While at the same time, I can not overlook the importance of compulsory education in the process of early stage education when the student can not correctly make a mature judgement.

我是跟你一个梯队的,有空也去拍拍我的文章啊`

Will education be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student, as the speaker assert? The effective way of educating(看到这儿还以为你要写什么样的教育方法会有效,结果你是说教育有效性的标准包括道德发展,有点歧义,用effectiveness of education会不会好点) involves the mental development level of the student. In general, I agree with the speaker, but when it comes to early years of a student, it is not comprehensible(不懂这里为什么要用comprehensible,这个词似乎没有明智的的意思啊?) to adapt(adopt?) free education, as is discussed below.

To begin with, I concede with the speaker that education meeting one's needs and interests is effective. As is well known(还是known to all要顺口一点), the interest of a subject helps the student not(help…not读着拗口,为什么不用prevent啊这类的词呢?就算用help也少了个to) lose heart when a difficulty is lying ahead. Interest can transmute dreary learning process into involving(这个词用得很诡异,我读不懂) recreation time. For example, both(two?) boys joined a same piano class, while one of them has a passion for piano, and the other is blind to piano. It is easy to expect a better performance of the first child, since his interest in piano helps him overcome challenges with high spirit and confidence. So, it is interest that makes a student learn by himself with passion, and which is the most effective way of education.(这段的例子论证有点流于表面了,其实可以再说深入一点)
Also, education concerning individual's interests is effective for it gives an(这个an很别扭) abundance of space and availability to a student to develop himself. It is(it is可以去掉) like growing a plant. If we give limited nutritions to a seedling, it would definitely not grow so well, or even withering(你前面是would,怎么后面跟了ing形式,注意这种并列表示的方法啊). But if we put the seedling into an open area with sufficient water, sunshine and other supplements, the plant may grow to a big tree(比喻不错,但是你要说nutrition,就接下来说nutrition,怎么又提空间什么的,这样的话就是不能起强烈的对比了啊。不好意思,阿狗写得多了一点,就想找渣). A student is just like the seedling, that is to say(这个that is to say也可以不写) too much constrain can only circumscribe his development into a huge tree. Thus the great freedom to students assures them to dig out(这个表达有点中式了) their potentials which makes education effective and meaningful.

However, the speaker overstated the importance of individual in the educational process, as overlooked the role played by parents and teachers. To some extent, compulsory education is vital to the student.

The student being young(这句有语法错误啊,用when the students are young不好吗?), compulsory education can prevent him from going to the wrong track(还是觉得有点chinglish). While in early years of a child, his judgment of good and bad(读着别扭) has not fully developed, thus he is easily influenced by people around. During this time, he is vulnerable and sensible, and thus compulsory education can help him get away from bad influences, and form a sound and mature view about world around him. Compulsory education is designed by professional educators who best know what a child should need and where he should be guided to. So compulsory education is effective in early stages of a child.(感觉你一直在重复对小孩成长有好处,却没有论证怎么个有好处法,所以才显得罗嗦,不深入。)

//感觉这一段写的超级啰嗦。。。超级车轱辘话。。。。。。。。。

To sum up, freedom in education is in general effective, for it provides the student with abundant choices and great impulsion in learning process. While at the same time, I can not overlook the importance of compulsory education in the process of early stage education when the student can not correctly make a mature judgement.(两个can not连在一起,考虑换掉其中之一吧)
