TOPIC: ISSUE51 - "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

"The most part of education," as Socrates once said (and I paraphrase) "is the instruction of a man in what he has inside him." In this case, real education must be designed to meet the student needs and interests and it will certainly fruitful. However, as far as I am concerned , compulsory and general edcation is also necessary .Therefore, we must keep a balance between special designed education and general education.

There is no doubt that personal interets and needs are the cruical part of education that educators must take into account. History is replete with such examples that people who have studied in one major later changed the areas to what they really like.Take Copernicus for example. He studied medicine in the university but later he turn his interest to Astronomy in which he discovered the heliocentric theory disrupting the geocentric cosmology of Ptolemy from Aristotle period and began a scientific revolution after being enunciated. So is Einstein’s. He did not study very well in the childhood but showed great interest in Physics laterly which lead to he became one of the most memorable and greatest scientists in the human history.

SImply put, the genuine education is not inserting the stufflings of information into a person, but rather elicting knowledge from him .In a conventional class, the teacher is an absolute authority while the stuents have no choice but to passive absorb the information which their teacher provide. Consider a student who was being so stuffled with various facts ,with an indisgested mass of materials that he has no time to draw out his own recourse and use his own ideas of analysising, synthesizing and evaluating this materials is more likely to develop his own strategy to undercut the authoirity of teachers such as mentally withdrawing , interrupting and the like. There is no doubt that the outcome of  this type of education is definitely low-efficient.

However,overemphasis on the special designed education will prove to be ineffective and certain amount of general educational classes are necessary for most individuals. On one hand ,there are various classes everyone must study .School must teach students ethical and social values to ensure each individual to be not only healthy and successful but also decent and good . None of this happen automatically as well as there is no genetic transmission of values.One the other hand ,when compared with professional education expert ,most students are myopia in certain degree. Overemphasizing interests will foster their habits of abandoning anything they do not like to learn. And thus giving up some classes will certainly lose a large picture for futher development in their later lifes. For example, Basic tool classes such as mathematics will be helpful in everyone's life and we can not leave without them in the rapid developing diginal society in most situations.

In sum,without certain general classes, students become inward- looking and scant of certain basic life skills.wihtout special designed classes ,education cannot go further.Therefore, to make education more effective, we should designed education which meet each individual’s characteristics and needs as the supplement of general education.

谢谢helenlhh的宝贵意见 :) 这样是不是说第一段的论点也要改改啊? 因为我记得的和兴趣有关的好像都是自学的~

不是说一定要改观点,关键是你的观点和例子对不上号。你可以说兴趣能激发学习欲望,因此学校应给学生提供发展兴趣的空间。
