The topic whether reading books is not as important as it once was after emergence of television is heated debated in such a world of today in which living and working pace is ever-increasingly accelerating. Can people indeed learn as much by watching television as they can by reading books, as the speaker asserts? While I fundamentally agree television has some merits due to its specialty, the books benefits far outweigh that of television.

As the television come to the world, no one can deny that the whole society, including living pattern and entertainment means in it, is entirely changed. One of an significant reason is that it to some extent envisions content of books. Before television epoch, reviewing can take effect only through ours imagine and remember by trace portrayed in books. It is far from absolutely objective, impartial, exactly detailed. Thus by the same reason, until recently, there are still most people do not easily accept the history recounted in literal biography, diary, or non-fictional records. The television's functions are incarnated. A fitting example is about newest event took place in final match of World Cup. If it is left to books to interpret or imagine, the audience will undoubtedly be more perplexed. Only through live relay in TV set, viewers all around the world clearly witness the controversy in green course.

Under other most circumstances, however, especially come to education realm, books have distinctive advantages. Watching television and video is no indication that any significant learning take place. The passive nature of television and other moving image render them ineffective in the learning process. In contrast, as experience informs us, studying book in a reflective procession--reading words, interpret them, correlating with other related knowledge learned before, eventually a full image is inscribed in brain. Another character of book different from video is its portability. We can reading books whenever and wherever, do without electronic, batteries, access to radio or cable connections.

Assuming that books are no longer important, we will refute our achievements. Along the river of human history, scientists, artists, philologists, archeologists, psychologists, all recorded their every detail of achievements, discoveries, improvements, results of experiments, temporary ideas on countless books, upon which society just stands today. Choosing television while rejecting greatness of books equal to reject human kind selves.

To sum up, as the television epoch arrived, many once entrenched means recording and broadcasting archival events or scenes are altered to some degree. Nonetheless, books' significance in future will not be paled comparing with its past, for example in educational area.
