I strongly disagree with the statement that tradition and modernization are incompatible that people can only choose one between them, as the speaker asserts. Modernization is anything but a process of irrationally discarding tradition. Also, tradition and modernization can get benefit from each other.(开头段,最好不要用I strongly disagree,I favor之类的字眼,aw的一个原则是要保证客观,公正)
Obviously, the speaker has misapprehended the concept of tradition and modernization. Tradition is neither backward-looking notion nor hangover of time. Tradition is the mores, values, ideas and etc come down from generation to generation(此句有两句谓语动词,可改为coming down), lots of which have significant and instructive meaning in today’ life. Modernization refers to the(the在此多余) industrialization, democratization, urbanization, and high development in technology and culture. Apparently, modernization is not a course of abandoning all tradition and(该为but), on the contrary, it need(s) to succeed the fine tradition with new element(s). For example, the theory and practice of ancient city planning provide abundant experience for the layout of modern city. Guan Zhong, a famous statesman of ancient China, had suggested that the layout of a city should consider the combination of political regulation and economic development, whose view still has instructive meaning for today’s city planning. Also, some local drama, dress, and relic can not only enrich the spirit(ual) life of modern people, but also push forward the urbanization of the area, for their distinctive characters will bring in a lot of visitors which will promote the development of various aspects of that area.
On the other hand, modernization will in turn make contribution to the survival and prosperity of tradition. For instance, modern technology can help to preserve culture relic from ruining and eroding. Also, modern people can appreciate Peking Opera, the most influential and representative opera in China, in a modern odeum with phonogenic facilities. And people can widespread (widespread是adjective,用spread或disseminate) their local or ethnical rites and rituals through television or other video products.
However, I concede that there do exist some old conventions and values. Sucth (such) as blind worship and the view that men were excelling(似乎没这个词) than women, values alike are so obsolete and fallible(应用fallacious) that they may negatively influence the advance of modernization. Hence, tradition as mentioned above should be cast away absolutely. At (in)the meantime, people should not blindly abandon all traditional content on the pretext of modernization but keep instructive old values and preserve significant culture to better the process of modernization.
In sum, tradition and modernization are not mutually exclusive and they can both benefit from each other. The speaker has unfairly generalized the concepts and made an arbitrary assertion. People can better the world through driving forward modernization and selectively keeping tradition.
:handshake
