Although major cities cannot include every aspect of a society, people are able to understand the most important characteristics of a country by studying these habitats of large groups of residents.
First of all, the location of major cities demonstrates the general geological conditions of a country, such as the distributions of natural resources and transportation paths. Because major cities should be rich enough to support the lives of a huge number of residents, they have to be superior to other areas. As a result, major cities are generally located on fertile agriculture lands, beside large profitable mines, or along important roads, railways, rivers, and coasts. By studying the location of these habitats of large groups of residents, people are able to learn the geological basis of a society, which significantly influence the forms of industry products, economic activities, as well as political principles.
Besides, the appearance of major cities indicates the civilization of a country. These habitants for large groups of people are also characteristic centers of economy, politics, and culture.
