When referring to the behaviors of political leaders, I’m inclined to the opinion that it is the responsibility for political leaders to demonstrate to the public, in realistic, what the situation is most of the time, but there might be some exceptional occasions.

Admittedly, in such a society that advocates democracy, in order to run well, a government should establish a good relationship with its people by acting as open as possible to the public. Not only newspapers reveal the behaviors of the politicians, political conferences are broadcast lively on TV so that anyone in the society has the chance to examine their behaviors through various ways. This help people to know that how their society are organized, and when they have problems, they have the right to propose questions to the political leaders. And as for political leaders, they should give a quick and practical response to the questions to show their honesty to serve its people. Thus, political leaders gain credibility from the public and, as well, get information from its people how to run the society better from a different sight of view. If a political withholds information from its people and this action is reveal in later time, he will be considered not only dishonest personally, but also not well committed to the public.

It is dangerous for political leaders to disclose information from its people. Unless the public knows the exact situation can they get ready for any sudden occasion. One unforgettable example is the SARS crisis in 2003. In that year when SARS was first discovered in China, the mayor of the city of Beijing tried to disclosed such a bad news from its local people for certain reasons, but the disease expanded rapidly through the city and invaded into other cities around and even out of control, spread through the whole nation. It is the mayor who is too confident about his ability to control the disease that led to the fatal result in the end. If the disease was announced earlier, the loss would surely not be so great and there would not be so many people suffered from such a virus and fewer people would lose their lives.

But in some cases, it is not wise for the government to tell truth to the public.
On example refers to the defense system of a country. When referring to such questions, political leaders should always keep their mouth closed without tell any information about the countries defense system. Whenever such information is open to the public, it will threaten the safety of the whole country because other countries may gain more benefits from the revealing information about the armed force of the country. For another, terrorism these days has been recognized to the whole world as an evil action. According to a national survey, after the great terrorism in 9.11, many American  have not recovered psychologically, from horror towards terrorists. Most people still keep alert about it even at Christmas time. Too much information about terrorism may disturb their ordinary life and the society will be in disorder.

To sum up, while considering their responsibility to tell truth to the public about how the society is organized, political leaders should use their wisdom to judge, sometimes, to withhold special information that is not necessary or even harmful for the public to know.
