51. "Education will be truly effective only when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student."

Brainstorming:

In the contemporary society, the importance of education can never be overemphasized. With the rapid changes and fast development of the society as well as technology, educations today have to serve both the social need and personal demand.

When children reach the demanding age to entering primary school, they must have not formed their philosophy(人生观) and characters, all of which have to be shaped and educated in school education as well as educations from their parents. In this case, personal interests must come after the importance of teaching these young children, or we say pupils, to know what is right or wrong, to understand the meaning of patriotism and filial piety, and to learn to judge their action by certain standard. These kinds of education of primary stage can never be neglected and should be paid great attention. We have not seen a country in which its primary education emphasizes individual hobbies most, because it is absolutely unwise to do so. Just imagine these 6 or 7 years -old children begin their educations by first choosing whatever they would like to learn, and learn to meet their own need, what kind of persons would they become in their later life? Obviously, children of this age think the most important thing in their life might be a dog in his bedroom, a nice butterfly on a flower, a whole afternoon to play with their friends, and maybe a toy gun to shot other children for fun. What if they choose to learn nothing and spend all their times of the year on these kinds of things? Or they will choose to learn art only in order to put a butterfly more beautiful than they have ever seen on a flower by their own hands. Some people might claim that this kind of education will give all the happiness to these children, but have they ever thought about our society?

If a society is sustained by these kinds of children when they grow up, can we ever make greater improvement in technology or economy? What is worse, when they spend all their childhood learning whatever they want, no more time is left for forming a full man with a integrate character or even allow them to learned to love peace as well as their family and country? The answers to these questions would be negative when no restraint is put on the education of children. Educations today need to serve the society first, and then come personal interests, especially at early stages. Children should be asked to study compulsory courses such as history--to better know about the past, art and music--to learn to judge and language--to be able to communicate with other people. Also, subtle influences are exerted on their characters in these classes. Only after these steps, can they be able to choose some lessons which they interest in.

After these children grow up and enter college or even become undergraduates, they can have more freedom in choose their courses, and educations of this stage have also offered them a lot of chances to learn according to their own will. Even though, colleges such as Harvard still ask their freshmen of whichever majors to learn Math, Physics, Biology and Chemistry as their compulsory courses. It is also possible for some other people to choose not to enter college but to go to companies to work, which is also a kind of personal need. And only at this time can we have the ability to judge our own decisions.

To sum up, to serve to society, education must be compulsory in some cases and to serve individual needs, education has to be flexible and versatile. This kind of education can be called an effective and responsible one.

In the contemporary society, the importance of education can never be overemphasized. With the rapid changes and fast development of the society as well as technology, educations today have to serve both the social need and personal demand. Wonderful, simple but elegant.
When children reach the demanding(达到入学年龄是不是?我倾向于demanded 被要求的)age to entering primary school, they must have not formed their philosophy(人生观) and characters, all of which have to be shaped and educated in school education as well as educations from their parents. Obviously, children of this age think the most important thing in their life might be a dog in his bedroom, a nice butterfly on a flower, a whole afternoon to play with their friends, and maybe a toy gun to shot other children for fun. I like these examples, so fun and specific What if they choose to learn nothing and spend all their times of the year on these kinds of things? Or they will choose to learn art only in order to put a butterfly more beautiful than they have ever seen on a flower by their own hands. Some people might claim that this kind of education will give all the happiness to these children, but have they ever thought about our society?

The answers to these questions would be negative when no restraint is put on the education of children. Educations today need to serve the society first, and then come personal interests, especially at early stages. Children should be asked to study compulsory courses such as history--to better know about the past, art and music--to learn to judge and language--to be able to communicate with other people. Also, subtle influences are exerted on their characters in these classes. Only after these steps, can they be able to choose some lessons which they interest in. interest直接作动词是不是引起(他们的)兴趣,引起(他们的)注意的意思?他们感兴趣用 be interested in (personal understanding, if not correct, please let me know)
