As the progress of civilization, more and more problems are facing the human beings nowadays. Someone claim that it is necessary to build a global university which dedicated to solve the world's problems. This assertion sounds very useful at the first glance; however, it is, to my view, impractical.

It must be admitted that a global university, whose students come from all over the world, will to some extent help deal with the world's most persistent problems. Since the nations in the world are more and more interrelated with each other, the global university, which can unite all the preeminent students in the world to study together, can possibly give rise to the better solutions to the problems. Also, it can contribute to the mutual understanding of different cultures which is essential to the cooperation of different nations.

Nevertheless, we must bear in mind that there are no idealism in the world, which applies similarly to the global university. The world's persistent social problems are so intricate that there may not exist complete solutions. The students in the global university, if it has been established, will probably come up with ideas which are of no help to the problem and may be difficult to be implemented. Consider the endless wars happen nearly everyday. Take the Israel and Palestine for example; the religious conflict and the policy made by the government are the inherent reasons. How can the students in the global university to handle this situation? Will the leaders of the Israel adopt the suggestion that not to beat back when his subjects is exposed to suicide bomber? Or can they change the citizens' religious allegiance. They can do nothing but to talk in the classroom if their suggestions are not adopted.

Moreover, we are live in a world composed of developed countries, developing countries and the third world countries. It is probably that the powerful countries will utilize the global university to work for their interest, the persistent social problems in their view. For example, the power countries may consider the energy crisis to be the urgent problem, and they may ask the student to find out a new method to generate the energy. But a third world country may conceive the lasting hungry is the persistent problem, it may want the student to solve the problem scientifically. Maybe no agreement will reach on the social problems and the power countries can influence the university, and if this is the result, why it can be called a global university?

To sum up, the global university actually can benefit the world in some sense, but it is only if all the human beings in the world to work together without the bias and selfish that the persistent social problems can be completely solved.
