TOPIC: ISSUE150 - "Because of television and worldwide computer connections, people can now become familiar with a great many places that they have never visited. As a result, tourism will soon become obsolete."


With the increasing popularity of television and worldwide computer connections, a large number of places of interest once less known to the majority of people now not only enjoy their deserved reputations, but also could expect more people to visit them.
For one thing, the more places people know, the stronger desire they have to visit them. People as old as my parents could remember days without television and internet. Those days, the furthest place they know was no further than our henan province. And the only way they acquired these information was the occasional talks between their ancestors and it was absolutely possible that their ancestors got the information or stories from their ancestors and most of the time they cannot assure the reality of the information. Knowing so little about the out world, they merely have any appetite to visit the world outside, even the neighboring city. However things changed when television and internet came into our life. Youth like me must have clearly memory about the first time we watched TV and operated computer, through which our world enlarge to a great extent. As some one once said (and I paraphrase): The more knowledge we own, the more things are unknown to us. It is true when it comes to the occasion of curiosity. Our curiosity undergoes a dramatically increase as we know more about the out world. After all, we can only watch the beautiful or great scenery on TV and internet, and it is clear to us there is great difference between seeing and visiting some place. So, the more we can see, the stronger desire we have to visit the actual places.

For another thing, TV and computer connection contribute great convenience to our travel. The more places we know, the more choices we have to choose from. And it is acknowledged that we can get more places to visit through TV and internet. So, we can visit the most places we want to and undergo our travel with less regrets. What's more, we can get the most convenience way to do our travel and therefore a large number of energy and money was saved. Considering this, there may be an increasing number of people chose visiting the world outside to spend their holidays since it will not cost too much and more pleasure will be got. For example, if a foreigner want to visit Beijing and what he need to do is to click his mouse and chose a proper line, flight, hotel, etc. Not until Comparing with ancestors who even risk their lives to enter a country far away, can we realize that we are so lucky to live in a era having TV and internet.

Admittedly, there are also some people who eliminate there travel for the development of TV an internet. They are those who travel for the business's sake, not for a visit. If they can acquire the required information in front of computer, there is no need for them to bear a long and boring travel.
