In the medical newsletter, the arguer recommend that all patients diagnosed with muscle strain should be advised to take antibiotics as part of their treatment. To support the assertion, a study among patients and some hypothesis are presented, however, careful examination tells that those evidences are questionable and lead little support to author's recommendation.
First of all, the author rely on the assumption that secondary infections prevent patients from healing quickly after severe muscle strain, but fails to provide any evidence to substantiate this. Lacking of convincing fact, it is unfair to link slow speed of healing from muscle strain with secondary infections. It is entirely possible that the two things have nothing influence with each other.Besides , the author also assume that using antibiotics have the effect of preventing secondary infections without providing reasons, which is also unpersuasive.
Secondly, the author cites a study containing two groups of patients to test the effort of using antibiotics, which is questionable in itself and fails to be persuasive even meaningful. without evidence ,it is possible that the two groups of patients are of distinct ages , genders, and healthy conditions , which also bring influence to the speed of their healing after severe muscle strain. Besides, it might be the different experience and skills of doctor make the two parts subjects have different treatment thereby experience different speed of healing, or perhaps the two side originally get the different level in the seriousness of strain and the part who are hurt slightly ,of course , can be cured sooner.
Finally, the auguement overlooks the concern that whether using antibiotics would bring side effect to patient. it is possible that some patients are naturally allergic to antibiotics and get uncomfortable feelings or even more serious reaction after using it, or perhaps while patients are instilled antibiotics , they would experience other diseases to organ, which in turn impede them recover from ill condition soon.Without ruling out this possibilities , it is unfair to recommend all patients to use the medicine whose results are uncertain.
To sum up, the recommendation is lack of grouds ,and the evidences provided are problematic in many ways. To convince me that patients should use antibiotics after strain, the author should provide more evidence to support this medicine is effective and suitable for stain patients and the first group heals sooner only because they use the antibiotics.TOPIC: ISSUE17 - "There are two types of laws: just and unjust. Every individual in a society has a responsibility to obey just laws and, even more importantly, to disobey and resist unjust laws." |
