*31. 花在研究上的资金几乎都是好的投资，即使研究结果是有争议的。

1．  在人类社会的演变过程中，研究发挥这极其重要的作用。它帮助人们解释了大量的自然现象，满足了人们对自然界的好奇心，并将愚昧的人们送入发达的文明时代。除此之外，还帮助人们征服大自然，利用大自然，推动着科学技术的发展，解决各种各样的社会问题。

2．  基于上述，研究是人类文明的发展主要动力之一。与其他方面相比较，研究是更值得投资的。比如：如果我们投资办厂，制造各种产品，只能在短期获取资金的流通，而如果将资金投入研究，尽管也许不会给大部分人带来直接利益，但是可以推动科技发展，增加生产力，产生长远效益，最终促进整个社会的进步。这点在现在飞速发展的时代尤为突出。

3．  不得不承认，尽管有些研究的结果是存在争议，但是并不意味着它们没有价值。一方面，有争议的东西可以让我们接触从未探知的领域；另一方面，有争议的东西可以吸引更多人的目光，使更多人参与到其中；再者，有争议的研究会带来矛盾，而矛盾正是社会进步的原动力。比如：克隆的研究，遭到很多人对其伦理道德的质疑，但是它的确揭开了很多关于遗传学方面的未知之谜，对探索遗传疾病的治疗有巨大的价值。另外还有放射性元素的使用，等等


As we know, investment in everywhere will bring dispute from people in society, including the research areas. I strongly support the assertion of the author that money spend on research is almost always a good investment, even when the results of that are controversial.

To begin with, the research plays a vital role in the revolution of human history. The research not only revealed many nature principles behind the cover of mysterious phenomenon and satisfied the curiosity of human beings, but also helped the people to conquer and utilize the nature and bring the ignorant human race into civilization world. A typical example in the ancient times that people transformed from eating raw to cooked meet by the discovery of man-made fire which is inspired by the research of nature fire totally demonstrates the importance of research in human world. Besides, nowadays, the research has become one of the greatest impetuses of modern technology and not only makes it possible for most people to enjoy the more convenient life but also contributes to solve the social problems caused by the social development. For instance, because of the overexploitation of non-renewable resources and the fast increasing of request in resource, many alternative energy resources such as the solar energy, geothermal energy and nuclear energy, have been discovered by some research. Thus, research does have a long-lasting positive influence in human society from the past to the future.

According above stated, research is one of the main motivities for the development of human civilization. Comparing to other aspects, research is much more worthy to be invested. For instance, if we spend some money on starting a factory to manufacture various products, we could only benefit from it in the aspects like gaining short-term profit and meeting very limited markets’ need. However, if we put those money in the research, although most people could not benefited from it, it can bring some long-run greater profit on manufacturing such as lifting the production, shorting the cost and rising the producing effect which would ultimately push the social production capability forward. It is much more obvious in the fast-moving time now.

In addition, though some of the research results are pretty controversial, it does not mean that they are worthless or harmful. On one hand, things caused dispute could probably give us the opportunities to contact with the areas that are never detected. On the other hand, those controversial results could attract more people to participate into the science research and breathe new life in the procession of research. The clone technology does bring countless questions from people all over the world, but it also does great help to uncover the mysterious knowledge of genetics and has huge value in probing the methods of curing genetic diseases. Besides, controversial researches like radioelement, nuclear technology, etc. all pitch in human society.

All in all, form what I mentioned above, it is easy to arrive to the conclusion that, as the speaker said, investment on research even the controversial ones are all worthy and significant.
