TOPIC: ISSUE121 - "At various times in the geological past, many species have become extinct as a result of natural, rather than human, processes. Thus, there is no justification for society to make extraordinary efforts, especially at a great cost in money and jobs, to save endangered species."

The extinction of species becomes a more and more important and hot problem in the world. Whether the reason is caused by nature or human activities, such result is not good for our human beings. So, in my point of view, I do not agree with the assertion of the author that doing best to save endangered species is not necessary. On the contrary, I strongly stress that saving those endangered species is our duty and responsibility, absolutely.

To begin with, without protecting the species in the earth, human beings will also be challenged by various factors ultimately when all the species are extinct. On one hand, the species all over the world are living mutually and depending on each other. The food chain in the nature is the best evidence. For instance, men eat the big fish, the big fish eat the small fish and the small fish eat the shrimp. If one link of the cycle is destroyed, such as the extinction of small fish, the food chain would be broken and the big fish would also be extinct because of the lack of food, and it will ultimately influence the human beings. From the analysis above, we could be easy to get the point that the extinction of any species will influence our human world finally.

In addition, if we cast a look back to the history of the world, we could find that with the development of human society especially after the revolution of industry last century, the species in the world sharply decreased because of various reasons such as pollution, hunting, overexploitation of the natural resource, etc. that were all brought by human beings. Thus, the reasons for the extinction from the human society are great and long-term. To be a responsible people, every one in the society should participate in saving the endangered species for both ourselves and our generations.

However, although saving endangered species is important for us, we should find a balance between investment in developing our society and saving the animals. If an extraordinary efforts including great cost in money and jobs in saving endangered species will badly hinder the process of the society or even make the society backward, we should consider its carrying out is worthy or not. Rational methods in solving such social problems are critic and necessary.

All in all, we should neither flee the responsibility of species extinction nor considering it as none of our business. To measure the benefits of saving endangered species and our own development, the human society should set a feasible project to handle those immediate and future problems that do take a key role in our survival.
