In this argument, the author concludes that the average property values have tripled in Brookville because homeowners there adopted a set of restrictions on how the community’s yards should be landscaped and what colors the exteriors of homes should be painted seven years ago. In order to raise property values in Deerhaven Acres, we should adopt our own restrictions. However, this conclusion relies on doubtful assumption and is therefore unconvincing.

First of all, there are many reasons which can cause average property values rising. For instance, with the population growing, the need of house is increasing. Or the price itself rises under inflation. What Author said that the price rise because of restrictions about landscape and color of the houses is too partial. From the above letter we can not see any direct relationship between them. Actually, in the reality, People thought little about the landscape of the community’s yards and color of the house when buying new ones. As a result, that the reason of price rising is landscape of yards and color of houses can’t stands.

In addition, the restrictions themselves have some flaws. In the argument, author only points out that homeowners there adopted some restrictions about landscape of yards and color of house seven years ago. But we have no idea how these restrictions were executed later. Many things could be happened in seven years. It is possible that although homeowners adopted restrictions, no one wanted to waste his time in executing it. The adoption just existed on the paper. Or the homeowners obeyed restrictions at first but in the later days the owners of new house neglected it. If restrictions can’t be executed thoroughly, others based on this assumption can’t stand.

At last, I want to mention that if the property price of Brookville rising because of restrictions on landscaping and house painting can be true. It doesn’t mean that the same thing can happen in Deerhaven Acres. Different areas have different situations. Can the homeowners of Deerhaven Acres adopt the right restriction suiting to the house there? It is doubtful. You may feel boring when you go to the place where the color of houses and landscape of yards are all same. Maybe the sight of the houses there has its own style which is better than it in Brookville. It is no need to follow those restrictions.

In sum, we can not see the relationship between property price rising and restrictions about landscape of yards and color of houses. To make his conclusion stand, author must show us the relationship clearly, and let us know how the restrictions were executed in seven years. He also should provide further investigation to prove that this behavior can be successful in Deerhaven Acres, too. If so, the above conclusion can be convincing.
