36.The greatness of individuals can be decided only by those who live after them, not by their contemporaries.

The influnce of a great man undoubtly will be far-reaching to either contemporaries or descendents, between which we cannot definitely conclude whom take priority to judge the greatness of individuals, because they enjoy distinct advantages in evaluation.

In the area of science, for the reason that scientists are always forward looking and apparently  unusual, in many cases, they are ignored or misjudged by contemporaries. Once a new notion or therory, which often challenges the convention or the human deeply-rooted ethics and custom, was put forward, it will arouse the old theroy advocators’ discontentment even anger. Illustrations exist all over histroy: When Copernicus used his heliocentricism to repudiated geocentrism,when Galileo “free ball” subverbed Aristotle’s wide-accepted theroy, when Darwin’s evolution challenged the inviolable God, the whole world was shocked, shocked because they are not ready enough to accept these unfamilar theroies. On opposition, with the advance of scientific researches and popularization of scientific studies, people after these scientists’ age are capable to evalue their greatness maturely and throughly.

Meanwhile, in the field of culture, contemporaries and descendents both are great connoisaurs towards arts. It is known to all that different age may flourish different worships, such as Romanticism in 19th century, Rationism in late of 19th cenury, and Decadentism in the 20th century, etc. Thus, it is quite possible that people of that time are sincere followers but people today are no longer the appreciators of these culture, or vice versa, for different value and fashion determines different attitude towards culture. For instance, Lolita which once was a banned book about 50 years ago , after years of notion updating, it became best seller resently, while once hot “Little Red Book”, which sang praise of Chairman Mao, almost disappear in market now.

However, in politics, contemporaries are the most qualified speakermen in judging a politician. The main function of politician is to enhance life standard of contempories and realize their immediate interests. Only people of his time can personally taste what his policies brought to them, cruelity or benefaction. Such as, the contempories, the only witnesses of the greatness of Peter the Great, can benefit directly from his brilliance concluding the life improvement and tax mitigation. Nonetheless, the latter people can merely imagine the booming age what was recorded. Therefore, coevals are better judgers for their personal vision than their posterity.

In bussiness, a wise executor’s greatness can be recognized in a short time. As far as I know, none of the great economic accomplishments of individuals requires their descendants to give values and objective assessment. From Bill Gates' Microsoft to Jack Welch' GE, all of them brought tremendous impacts on our modern society and benefited human beings all around the world. The contributions of these figures were rapidly and generally acknowledged by the public and nobody would doubt the justification of these judgments. Thus, especially in the economic realm, I hold that there is no need for descendants to evaluate the greatness of figures again because their contemporaries could give an explicit and impartial comment to them.

To sum up, in different realms individuals should be evalued by different judges, either contempories or descendents.

我觉得这样写也是可以，就是每段还有开头结尾的时候再强调强调你的观点比较好，因为你这个观点本来就有点大，如果不强调给人散的感觉。
