With the rapid development of technology, the invention of video camera offers us an accurate and convincing way to record our contemporary life. Nowadays both the video documentation and the written records play important role in our society.
In the ancient times, people made a record by tying a node or carved some dot and lines on the crust of turtle. Then they found they could not express their idea clearly and they started to make records on bamboo or some other soft materials,such as the skin of animals,with carbon.Until two thousand years ago, the modern paper was born and the quality has imporved a lot during the past years.Now people are used to take notes or draw pictures with pen and paper. The foot of human exploration about more clear and exact way to record the inner world and outside life never stops. That is the reason why video camera was born and serves us to make live record.
Compared to several sentenses on paper,the video camera makes the records much more accurate and convincing. The video camera could be used to record some events and show the people who were absent the same event. Maybe you would write down the paper that today the wedding ceremony was wonderful and lots of people attended it. How wonderful was it? Maybe you could further record that there were many booloons and flowers in the ceremony. How did the attendents feel like? Perhaps you will say they were happy. However, all those descriptions are not as accurate as the wedding ceremony video, from which you would see how the church was decorated and how people smiled. Another example to illustrate the advantage of video camera is the record of the crimes, which could have the criminals to admit their behavior.
Without the video camera, our life will lose a lot of pleasure. The parents cannot record the important moments of their babies and review the records with their children when the children grow up. An exciting match cannot be watched again. Neither the images of the hosts will appear in TV programs, nor will the faces of singers come out in Music programs.
Why do we still keep the written records today? It can express feelings exactly with the help of language. In most cases, vedio camera just records the appearance of the people and ignores the inside mind. When we want to take a note of an necessary class, it is much more convenient to write down the most important points of view on paper.The written records are still useful for our daily life.There are not so high requirments to making written records as that to take vedio records, such as expensive equipments ,the operating skills and so on. It is still a main-stream way to make records.
As the discussion above, we have to admit the importance of both vedio camera and written records. They help us to record our life with different advantages. With the development of technology, we could expect the born of new way of making records, which is most likely better than both vedio camera and written records.
