Whether the artist or the critic gives society something of lasting value? The speaker claims that the front. I fundamentally tend to agree with the assertion. However, in my view, the evaluation of the critics also plays a important role in something of lasting value.

It is true the assertion is clearly accurate in that the importance of the artists is much emphasized on the traditional culture. For supporting example, one needs look no further than painting, which have been passed down for thousands of years. It is famous paintings that the artists created in ancient time that is a treasure for nowadays society, for they stand for a host of society something of value in that times, which are evidences for human being to make researches on the ancient culture and civilization of human being. Thus, it is the artist who offers human being much something of lasting value for modern society.

Moreover, it is widely acknowledged, to some extend, that art plays a crucial on the perverse something, which will become something of lasting value. Consider, for example, it is some ancient buildings of lasting value that have been preserved that are the creation of the ancient art. If the artists would not make full use of their intelligence to make the buildings stand on the earth, then human being can not appreciate so famous buildings. Hence, we can not emphasize the importance of the artists on supplying human being something of lasting value.

Under some circumstances, nevertheless, it might be counterproductive, in a large sence, to overemphasize the function of artist and overlook the importance of critic, who may also offer society something of lasting value, even much more lasting for something because of  their functions. Common sense teaches us, for instance, that it is a mistake to attempt not to consider the critic. For one thing, the critic can make evaluations on the works of art, such as novels,films, music, painting, etc, which would give people much more discussion and thinking on the works for the reason that the critic have a deep understanding on the works that is not for common persons. Thus, it is the works that may become a lasing value for human being. For another, the evaluation of the critic might play a much more important part on the works of lasting value, in some conditions, than the works himself.

To sum up, there is little doubt that something of lasting value are put out by the artist. Obviously, if there would no good evaluation of the critic on something, which may be of lasting value, then many lasting something would appear and maintain for many hundreds of years. Accordingly, on balance the speaker's assertion is fundamentally correct.
