What, you may wonder, is the responsibility of corporate executives today? Is it only to make maximum money for the companies within the law as the speaker claim? Although profit is important for the companies, in my view, corporate executives are also with responsibility for their employee, their customer, and the society which cannot be overlooked.

Admittedly, the main or most important responsibility of corporate executives is to gain as much money as possible for the companies within the law. Company lives on profits; a businessman is a businessman not a philanthropist. Without profits the company can do nothing but bankrupted. Corporate executives should have to make as much profit as possible within the law for the companies to maintain the development of the companies.

However, I questioned the word "only" which means corporate executives do not need to worry about other things. As a responsible company, corporate executives should be accountable for their employees, their customers and even the society.

First of all, employees are one of the most basilic components of companies. The quality of the staff decides the destiny of companies. Capable employees may bring more profit for their companies, or the companies will be inefficient even if there is a ingenious executives. According to Fredrick Hertzberg’s Two Factor Theory, corporate executives should take care of things such as welfare and working environment of employees for retaining the excellent workers and educate their employees frequently in order to help their growth because in this sense, company is a social university.

Second, corporate executives need to make the products of their companies be not only harmless but also believable. They are with responsibilities for their customers, which is crucial for their companies' credits. For example, "Made in Japan" is a sign for good quality, and the scandal of Enron Gate is made the company downfall completely. In a word corporate executives also have the responsibility to keep the credits of their companies in the customers.

Last but not least, another significant responsibility of corporate executives is to benefit the society rather than harm it. Company is also a part of society, and taking some social responsibilities will benefit companies in the long run. For instance, companies cannot gain profit at cost of polluting the environment, which betrays continuable development and may affect the development of the enterprise itself. Another example is Bill Gates who often does some charity undertaking which brings a lot good reputation for his Mricosoft. In short, corporate executives also have responsibility for society to make sure that their companies are benefiting the society rather than harming it.

In sum, I concede that making money is an important aim for corporate executives, but this is not the only one, beside which corporate executives also has responsibilities for employees, customers, society and so on.
