Education will be effective when it is specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests of each student. While this claim has considerable merit with respect to professional education, I take exception with the claim when it comes to some other fields of education such as moral education.
In the field of special education, every field in the society needs their special knowledge or technology. It is impossible and unnecessary for one student to master the technology of all the domains. Therefore, it seems necessary to impart different sort of technology to different student respectively so that they could meet the needs of different work. Considering the distinctness of each student, including their personal requirement and interests, education should be specifically designed so that every student is interested in what he/she is learning, and he/she can study and work with great passion. In this way, students having learned their demanding knowledge and getting into work will contribute a lot to the various domains of the society, which is the best rewarding for the education.
However, a man with only special technology is far from an integrated person who is able to survive in the society. Fundamental educations in ethics, art and logic are necessary .In the precondition of limited education resources, since these kinds of education differs little from one person to another, it seems more effective to design general education meeting common requirement than specific education meeting the individual needs. Knowledge getting from these fundamental educations constructs the basement of a good person. From elementary school to the university, all of the students have the compulsory courses of ethics, logic, and math in China. In these courses, they are taught to be honest, good-mannered and studious and they are getting the ability to tell what is right and what is wrong .these behavior and abilities usually have no individual characteristic. Thus, fundamental educations, which save many social resources, are more effective in initiating basic knowledge.
In sum, education specifically designed to meet the individual needs and interests will be effective since it can help the student enhance their professional ability, but the general education designed to impart the basic knowledge should not be ignored.
