Is putting large amount of money on protection of many endangered species unjustifiable because they become extinct merely as result of nature? Although the assertion have merit insofar as that nature have great influence on the survive of species , it is human who accelerate the process of extinction and based on some other considerations it is reasonable for man to preserve species to some extent at expense of money and jobs.

Admittedly , at various times in the geological past it is nature that determine destiny of animals and plants. I fundamentally believe in Darwin’s theory that which specie will survive is selected by nature , which make evolution possible . Species that are more adaptive to changing environment is more likely to thrive while those inapt ones extinct. Discoveries of paleontology can fully prove it and before men appeared, numerous species have already disappeared. It is tempting to accept the speaker’s implication that men have little to do with extinction of species , which, however, is not the case. Plenty of evidence have show that men’s domination in the earth lead to the rapid increase of speed of extinction , which can be generally explained in two ways. One is that human activities like killing and hunting directly extinct species , the other lies in that by changing the environment in the way like pollution and deforestation , too fast than the pace of     evolution , men indirectly kill out species . Moreover, situation continuously deteriorates in nowadays. After all , I strongly disagree with the assumption that extinction is merely result of nature now .

But, only the fact that men involves in diminishment of biodiversity is not sufficient to support the necessity of making effort to preserve species , there are other reasons to justify it. One have something to do with the safety of ourselves. Scientific research and empirical experiences have pointed out the crucial role played by biodiversity in the balance of environment and climate .The rampant of some plant in certain region in China is just because their natural enemies have been extinct by human activities , which is currently disturbing the well-being of residents there. Climate balance in wild areas in North China has been broken as a result of residents’ butcher on wolf . Similar events happens all around the world ,which,  if not prevented,  will ultimate endanger the survive of human kind. So , in concern of ourselves, it is responsible for men to protect species with money and energy .

When compared with those social problems such as poverty , unemployment, access to education, health-care, etc. undoubtedly preservation should give less priority and I appreciate the assertion that we should not save endangered species at expense of large amount of money and jobs. However, it does not mean that we should stop our effort or reduce current cost in this activity because the amount of money used in protection is accounts only a small proportion of what we make and does not have much negative effect in the welfare of society . In fact, countries and communities should increase the expenditure in species preservation in the basis that well-being of people is not influenced . Besides, when discussing the cost of money and jobs , we are likely to ignore the commercial payment brought about by the protection of biodiversity , just like the relationship between investment and profit . The research in the process of the project may accelerate the advance of our know knowledge and technology in biology , chemistry , medicine and genetics , which is also beneficial to the health of men and with these advance new industry will thrive and thus new profits, new jobs emerge . For example, we have find a relatively effective cure for cancer and the most important ingredient is extracted from a almost extinct plant named yew and by protecting and make some commercial use of it , both the specie and many lives of people are saved. So , contrary to the assertion, I think putting some more effort in preservation of species is justifiable at current situation.

In sum, it is man that makes numerous species extinct and it is absolutely reasonable for men to protect endangered species at the cost of money and jobs currently for it does not hamper we promote the welfare of people and instead it serves to the well-being of mankind.
