"Rituals and ceremonies help define a culture. Without them, societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are."

I agree with the view that rituals and ceremonies define a culture without which societies or groups of people have a diminished sense of who they are. Everyone on the earth enjoy many ceremonies and experience rituals every year. Some of them are very famous and celebrated all around the world ,such as Spring Festival ,Christmas Day, Volunteers Day. It is easy to find the importance of rituals and ceremonies which remind us of our ancestor and tradition.
       The main function that rituals and ceremonies help define a culture is that they give people a opportunity to review the history. Every culture has its own hero in its history, they were remembered or even worshiped by their people. When people think about them , they learns from the hero how should they do to their motherland and get along with his compatriot. For instance ,once one see a statue of a soldier ,he or she would remember how hard the elders fought for today’s peace world and value the current society. Therefore ritual and ceremonies always remember people what the life of their elders like and how they should tackle the problem lays before them.
       One can learn a lot about one’s own culture form function rituals and ceremonies. Every culture has its special way to relax ,to show love ,to behave angry and to justify the moral issue. How can one learn the particular value and moral of one’s culture without experience the traditional ritual and ceremonies? With the rituals and ceremonies one can relax ,solve many spiritual problem that need the wisdom of time, in short ,they make people comfortable, give them a way to catharsis their feeling. Therefore people is often ,if not always, lie on their culture.
       How can culture maintain what it is while there are many different culture in the world? By rituals and ceremonies. It is great to see the variety of cultures. Every culture has its advantage and no one is superior or inferior. They are a treasure ,a heirloom handed from thousand years ago. It is critical to maintain the culture difference for a further development of modern world.. While a Chinese may enjoy Christmas Day and really appreciate Jesus, he or she would never forget Spring festival and lantern Festival.
       In sum, I think rituals and ceremonies plays a important and undeniable role in define culture. Without them , people tend to forget their elders and even who they are .To understand and enjoy one culture ,one should first follow the steps of its traditional rituals and ceremonies.
