TOPIC: ARGUMENT38 - The following memo appeared in the newsletter of the
West Meria Public Health Council.
"An innovative treatment has come to our attention that promises to
significantly reduce absenteeism in our schools and workplaces. A
study reports that in nearby East Meria, where fish consumption is
very high, people visit the doctor only once or twice per year for
the treatment of colds. Clearly, eating a substantial amount of fish
can prevent colds. Since colds are the reason most frequently given
for absences from school and work, we recommend the daily use of Ichthaid,
a nutritional supplement derived from fish oil, as a good way to prevent
colds and lower absenteeism."

In the author argument ,he comes to conclusion that we should use the
Ichthaid daily, to order to prevent colds and lower absenteeism. To support
his idea, he points out that eating a substantial amount of fish can prevent
colds and the colds are the reason most frequently given for absences .Based
on unfounded evidence and illogical assumption, I am specious of the author's
unconvincing recommendation.
First of all, the number of the people who catch colds does not equal the
number of the people who visit the doctor only once or twice per year. It
is possible that the people who catch cold may not go to see the doctor for
many other factors such as the inconvenient transportation, the high fee of
the medicine and the view that the colds is easily cured by the patients
themselves. It is indeed that the people in nearby East Meria rarely catch
colds, but it does not mean that it is the same case in the West Meria. The
different situations must be taken into account .Perhaps the weather in East
Meria changes rarely and the temperature remains the nearly the same all the
time which results in rare chance of catching colds rather than the rapid
changing of the weather in West Meria. Without ruling out the possibilities
mentioned above, I can not easily be convinced that the author's suggestion
is rational.
Besides, it is hard to say the eating a substantial amount of fish can prevent
colds. There is litter casual relativity between the high fish consumption and
the rare possibility of catching colds.Even if the fish has really a good effect
on preventing colds, we can not come to the conclusion that the fish oil refined
from the fish has the same effect, let alone the Ichthaid, a nutritional supplement
derived from fish oil. There is a chance that the effective ingredients which can
prevent colds has lost in the process of derivation of the Ichthaid. Since the author
do not give a more detailed information about the nutritional supplement, I am not
swayed easily by the author's conclusion that we should recommend the daily use of
Ichthaid.
Thirdly, it is not sure that colds are the reason most frequently given for absences.
The author can not explain the process of getting the data which should be done exactly
by a survey of the workers and students. It is possible  that the absenteeism is due to
many others problems .Perhaps the workplace is too dangerous to work any more, so the
workers have to make a excuse for absences ,or perhaps another disease attributes  to
the lower absenteeism. Unless the author makes a more particular survey of the cause
of the lower absenteeism, it is hard for me to believe the author's specious view.
To sum up, I can make the conclusion safely that the author's conclusion is unfounded
and illogical .Even though there is a little relation between the colds and the fish ,
I can not  still be convinced by the author's view. In order to make the conclusion more
cogent, the author should give more information about the
detailed effect of Ichthaid, the real number of people who catch colds in the West Meria
and the cause about the workers' and students' absenteeism。

总体上没有大问题,你的很多想法看了以后让我豁然开朗!很不错,加油,再增加句式的多样性!
