TOPIC: ARGUMENT9 - The following appeared in a memorandum from a dean at Omega University.

"Fifteen years ago, Omega University implemented a new procedure that encouraged students to evaluate the teaching effectiveness of all their professors. Since that time, Omega professors have begun to assign higher grades in their classes, and overall student grade averages at Omega have risen by thirty percent. Potential employers apparently believe the grades at Omega are inflated; this would explain why Omega graduates have not been as successful at getting jobs as have graduates from nearby Alpha University. To enable its graduates to secure better jobs, Omega University should now terminate student evaluation of professors."

In the argument, the arguer asserts that Omega University should not evaluate the professors to enable its graduates to have better opportunities in the job market. To justify the claim, the arguer points out that after carrying out the measure, the professors have begun to assign higher grades. In a addition, the arguer mentions that potential employers would not like to employ the graduates from Omege due to the untrue grades. Finally, the arguer cites the example that graduates from Alpha University have been successful at getting jobs to strengthen his claim. A careful scrutiny would reveal how unconvincing the conclusion is.

In the first place, the arguer fails to convince us the grades are untrue. The procedure Implemented by the Omega University is a good way to improve the quality of professors' instruction in the common sense. The arguer does not make any investigation or provide any evidence to prove that the professor assign higher grades to delight the student in turn to highly evaluate them. Perhaps the students' grades are really better than before thanks to the teacher improve their teaching method. The arguer does not mention that some students which are not good at study even have high grades.

In the second place, the arguer offer no evidence to justify the unemployment due to the potential employers believe the grades are inflated. Perhaps the grades are only one respect considered by the employers. It may not be a crucial factor to determine which student would be employed. Or perhaps there is some other reasons leading to the decline of the employment, such as fewer openings than ever before, more graduates enter the job market, and some majors are not needed in the job market. The arguer cannot draw hasty conclusion before he ruling out other possibilities impact the ratio of the employment.

Finally, the arguer cites the success of the graduates from nearby ALpha University at getting jobs. But there is no information provided about the condition of the students, such as the grades, the ability, the experience of part-time job and so on. We do not know the reason why they make success in getting job. Additionally, we have no idea whether or not the university as a parallel takes the same method. If the students from Alpha University also take the same methods that encourage students to evaluate teachers, and also their employment is worse than that after they paused the method. By considering this assumption, the author can convince us that we should terminate the evaluation.

To sum up the whole argument is not well reasoned. To make it acceptable, the arguer would have to provide more evidence that the evaluation impact the employment. To enable the graduates to get job, the arguer should not focus only on the grades. The ability on many respects of the students would be considered before they employed.

我也在看argument9这片文章,感觉你的2.3两段端过于冗长,可以合成一端,主题就是“两种前提错误“,最好是用简练的语言。
第4段,是关于错误类比的。
还是语言不够简练,一个问题表述太多,这是不必要的。
建议精简语言,然后尽量多找几个逻辑错误。
