The speaker contends that because of artist but not the critic, some value may last for a long time in our society. In my observation and experience as a college student, to some extent, I agree the author's opinion about the importance of artist. However, we should not ignore the critics' great role in the very progress of art.

Admittedly, with artists' vigorous and creative minds, could there many great arts spring out in different art-fields from those famous masters and then give far-reaching influence in our society. One need look no further than those western musicians, epitomized in Beethoven, as one of the most famous composer not only in his time but also in these days, who left a handful of touching and  valuable musics -- such as 9 symphonies and 5 piano concertos through his passionate and drunken creation which still have great precious value nowadays. Then turn to the litterateurs, typical of Shakespeare Willian, he also created many works including "As you like it" and "Hamlet" which well known as famous literatures. Through this creation, he contributed a meaningful thought to those persons both lived in his time and nowadays. Thus, we can see that it is the artists who establishes the foundation for society's lasting value.

However, although the artists plays an  significantly basal role in creating valuable works, we could not ignore the effect of critics who give appreciate insight so that many excellent works could come out of darkness. Take one great painting genre for instance, that is -- impressionism, which was unknown for many people and then even attacked by other painters and populace in its infantile stage because they could not apprehend the meaningful style painting. In that case, those impressionists and some critics gathered together often to develop  small party which called " salon" later in which they discussed those works  and then found the merits and deficiencies.  Through these action, those critics begun to apprehend the significant value of impressionistic paintings and then appreciated them in open occasion. Thanks to the critics, the impressioncism could not only survive and then became famous in the world but also gave meaningful thought influence to the later genres.

Further, common sense tell us that both artists and critics promote the meaningful value of works to last in our society. After the artists created some meaningful works, we could enjoy them just at face value. No other than critics, who have more systemic and in-depth knowledge than layperson could help us to apprehend and appreciate the essential value of those works. For example, when we appreciate a piece of music, we may only enjoy the pleasing sound and couldn't find other precious value. Yet, after listening to or reading critics' commentary, you might immediately find that you could find more sparks of it such as harmonic structure and rhythmic meters. When it come s to the painting, it is the same that with the help of critics you could find more merits and value of one paintings, that is, aesthetical principle out of the color and shape. Accordingly, it is the critics that help the artists' work more easily and quickly reach populace, which will stand the test of the time and last long.

In sum, it is the interrelation of artist and critic that promote our art field to achieve great accomplishment and give society something of lasting value. In order to create more and better art works and then pass along to our generations, we should necessarily rationally take advantage of the artists and critics.
