"No field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their knowledge and experience to that field of study."
完全同意
I strongly agree with the speaker's assersion that no field of study can advance significantly unless outsiders bring their
knowledge and experience to that field of study. There is not doubt that every field of subject in the world is interrelated
and could not be isolated from one another. The knowledge of one field could shed light on the studies of other fields, or
even help other fields to accomplish great achievement. Untold example could illustrate this point.
First of all, the development of any field relies on the introduction of other fields, which provide either new tools or
insightful thinkings. For example, ancient philosophers also specialize in physics, who view the world as a vague and
contradictable one. What is the world make up from? Ancient physics explained the world as water, fire, earth and so on,
which seems very ridiculous nowadays. However, after the introduction and development of mathematics, the physics begin to
view the world in a way that is more accurate and predictable. Thanks to the combination of mathematics and physics, the
great theory and immortal physicists emerge generation after generation. It can be seem that without mathematics, Newton
could not deduce the principles and laws such as three fundamental laws of mechanics in physics. When it comes to the field
of art, we can see that numerous artists are also specialist in other fields. Vinci, a immortal artist in the history who
produce the masterpiece Mona Lisa, are also familiar with various studies, such as architecture, analogy and the design of
submarine. No one can deny the fact that he drew the inspiration of composition from those other field, and finally he made
a great success. Furthermore, at the very beginning, Thales was a businessman who was skilled at ecnomic field, which helps
him to have ample mathematical knowledge. Finally, he became a astronomer; obviously, the knowledge of mathematics play a
vital part in his achievement in astronomy.
Moreover, with the help of outside knowledge and experience, remarkable discovery and dicisive conclusion could be drawn. Any
research nowadays could be regarded as a group project, which require the association of specialists from different subjects.
For instance, the death of Napoleon is unearthed by the collective effort paid by experts from different subjects. After a
study on the hair of Napeleon, the researcher concludes that the great emperor was poisoned to death. In the whole process to
discover the truth, archeologist first find out the hair left in the prison, then the chemists analyze the componets of the
hair, and finally, the biologists confirm the components poisonous to the human being. Thus it can be seen that only after
the collaboration of so many disciplins can the truth of historical event be discovered.
In sum, no area of intellectual inquiry operates in a vacuum. Because the sciences are inextricably related, to advance our
knowledge in any one area we must understand the interplay among them all. Moreover, it is our non-scientists who make
possible the science, and who bring meaning to what we learn from it. |
