Do the  individuals' greatness can be decided by those who live after them or their contemporaries. This is always far from an easy task to give an answer. In my view, it ususally take a long time to recongnize the achievement of the people in the past while relatively a short time for the current people.
First consider the arts, art has an effect on the individual and on a particular in a society, Psychologically, art enhances life by adding beauty to our surroundings. It is a source of pleasure and relaxation from the stresses of life. Thus the work of artis have always been highly regared, and they are the idel for most of their audience. But to be recongnize by the society or the critics is not an easy work for all the artists. Because arts fall into the category of creative work, they cannot easily be understand or appreciated by common people who have no special knowledge or the experience in the situation the artist are trying to descript. Sometime you need share some feeling or spirit with the artists to fully understand their work. But in the past when people have to concentrate on making life, it is highly unlikely to spend their time and energy on art education and training for common people. Thus the great work of artists cannot be recognized by their contemporaries. History is replete with such exaples, Van Gogh, two of his painting which are still living broken all records for selling at $50,000 recently, only sold one in his entire career. The situation have been greatly imporved now. Thanks to the development in technology,especially the information technology and communication technology, it will take a shorter time for the artists to show their work to the audiences. The film in Hollywood will soon appeared in every conner of the world, the post and news of this film will bombard you whereever you are. And people are wealther than before willing to spend their time and money to entertain themselves. In short, it will take a shorter time for the current people to recognize the greatness of artists then before.

Then consider scientific research area, which has been the hot topic in current world because its great contribution to the other prefessional areas as well as people's daily life. People are pay so much attention to the work of scientists and engneers and attach so much importce to their work that the position of scientists and engeers are higher than ever before. In the past, though there are anynms great discovery and inventin which have great changed the world and contribute to current scientific research, the work of scientists and engeers  were not fully respected, which may yied to religon or policy of government, thus lots of great work in scientific research area were decided by the people live after them. A typcial example imediately cominng to mind is......... The situation have been greatly improved in current sociey, as mentioned before, the role of science and technolgoy have been fully understood, which made the scientists and engeers get more support from the government and society and have a better sociel environment which greatly benefit their work. Thus they can make the achievement and their works can be recognized by the society in relative a short time. We cannot cite a better example than Bill Gates, his Microsoft was founded in 1970 when he droped out from Yello, and soon developed as the largest software company in the world, Bill Gates became the richest people on this planet. In short, the work of scientist and engeers can be recongnized in a shorter time than before because the world are paying more attention on scientific research area.

In sum, whether the greatness of individuals can be decided imedietly or after a long time is had to generlize a result. Mostly which need to be decided based on a case-by-case analysis. In my view, generilly, it will take a shorter time for the current people to recognize the greatness of individuals, besides the two areas mentioned before, other area share the same situation. To better understand it, you  need look no further than what around you.

     而现在，技术进步了，人们的生活水平也提高了，可以更多的艺术投入。一个艺术作品被认可的时间短了。例子，Hollywood的电影一夜之间就能传遍世界。

In sum, whether the greatness of individuals can be decided immediately or after a long time is had to draw a conclusion. Mostly which need be determined on a case-by-case basis. In my view, generally, it will take a shorter time for the current people to recognize the greatness of individuals than before. Besides the two areas mentioned before, other areas share the same situation. To better understand it, you need look no further than all what around you.
